Poverty has been decreasing in Canada for 50 years. It's gone from 14.5% in 2015 to 6.4% in 2020. It's among the lowest in the world.
People aren't butthurt and mad at billionaires because there's rampant poverty. People are butthurt and mad at billionaires because they can't buy as much stuff as they would ideally like and their house will be four times as expensive yet half the size as their parents was.
But their anger is misdirected. Be mad at bad government, not the small group of people who've benefited from bad government. Don't be mad at Timmy!
I’d be more likely to blame corporations, lobby groups, and hoards of voters who vote in governments with agendas to reduce regulations, reduce taxation, and to make government smaller. Cuts to education to help folks become less educated and more fearful/reliant on the loudest voices.
I wish we could understand that our government doesn’t have to be, and rarely have only a 4 year term. We actually have a system here where an elected government can make real long term impacts and stay in power for decades as a party. The 4 year election cycle really doesn’t have to apply here, but it’s just another example of the cultural bleeding over from the south….
Selling off and privatizing of public assets eased down with the promise of cuts and efficiency is such crap as well.
But we do what we always do and play crabs in a bucket. Too busy being upset that the postal carrier wants to make more, to focus on the businesses that make billions off of us while doing nothing for us. Governments here are not a third party, they are us, and we do actually have the power to effect change with our numbers, but we divide so easily, we’re short sighted, and intrinsically selfish. We all want to be millionaires, instead of banding together to all be comfortable together…. Blah blah blah… we’re just humans after all!
/pointless rambling rant…
