Honestly the good news with the Dobson deal is we can absolutely sign Sanderson to cheap. On a bridge he can't command more than 3.5mill, and long term no more than 5mill, outside of him putting a Cale Makar like impact in his first two seasons.
Exactly. I've been trying to say this for a bit and now we have more proof of that.

Why does Lou do this?
Okay screw Arizona.

To Ottawa
Noah Dobson 3 x 4M AAV RFA at expiry
Josh Bailey 2 x 5M AAV (7M owed)

To NYI
Zaitsev 2 x 4.5M AAV (7M owed)
2023 1st Top 10 protected
Ridly Grieg or Shane Pinto (Long Island native)

Really ? What is Dobson worth in trade in your opinion.
More than a cap dump, a protected 1st and a prospect

Are these the same people who were previously against moving Greig? There were always some who were willing to move him, and one of the guys you quoted clearly isn't a sens fan.
I'd move Greig and a top 3 protected first for Chychrun. In an instant

Dobson is a 6'4 right shot dman that is 22 years old and just put up 51pts on a stingy Isles team. Sanderson has been an often injured but elite prospect who has performed very well at the NCAA level.

These would not create the same holes in the lineup whatsoever. Getting Dobson for Sanderson would be a massive upgrade in the short-term and most likely the long-term as well unless Sanderson develops incredibly well.
Dorion and co beleive Sanderson to be a superstar.

And if he really puts up a Cale Makar like performance, Chabot is expendable and will be an excellent trade piece.
A trade piece for what?

That's great. It is way easier to project Dobson as a superstar then it is Sanderson. Mainly because he is nearly there and is actually proving it at the NHL level.
Okay well then I’m sure Sanderson will be moved shortly for a top 4 d then?

A 22yr old 6’4 Right shot dman who logged 22 mine a night and 50+pts on a below average Isles team does is not your typical top 4 dman
Lots of d men are better prjectable than Sanderson. Sanderson hasn’t played yet. I bet the isles wouldn’t have traded dobson for a young d before he played a game if they had the chance which I’m sure they did.

Think a top 4Dman (Worse than Chabot but much cheaper and able to play 2nd pairing super well), a great propect, and a 1st round pick.
I’m thinking I would rather just keep Chabot.

Sanderson + 1st as a base, and Isles would not deal him for that

Sens would not deal what it would take to get Dobson, and the Isles wouldn't consider moving him
For sure. Sanderson + + to get Dobson would be fair.

An interesting question would be who were the sens higher on in their draft year - Dobson or Sanderson. I suspect the former but not really going off too much.

I'd rather we jsut do, but if Sanderson is having a Cale Makar impact and demands a ton, and there's a big market for CHabot, why not explore it?

I'm rather puzzled by the prospects of a Chychrun trade and have mixed emotions. Even though I watch a NHL game pretty much every night (and frequently 2 games), I think I need to watch more Arizona games. He's played one season as a RD and the results weren't great. I'd love to get him or another good "RD" and kick some butt and have a good season, but at that price I'm just not sure. I guess you need to figure out where you're at on the risk versus reward continuum as well.

Because Chabot is a first pairing D. And we can have two. I would rather Chabot and Sanderson (let’s say he’s turns into makar) than Sanderson, a second pairing D, a prospect and a first.

We’ve been bad for so long we are no where close to and likely won’t be close to downgrading players just cuz. Need all the good players we can get

I don't think many defensemen have better projections than Sanderson. Especially ones that are 22 and under. Dobson is very clearly one that does though.

I'm sure the Isles would have traded Dobson for a 22yr old 50+ pt right shot dman who played top pairing minutes if he had just finished an impressive but injury riddled NCAA season. One of these guys is 20 and one is 22, they aren't very far apart in age.

Are there any other proper RD available on some of the cap crunch teams?
Like isn't Even Rodriguez rumored to be available?
Seems like we're in for the duration on Chychrun, but wondering if there's a plan b option out there that wont cost us
Pinto
Greig
Sanderson
Soogard

Kinda fine with losing
Jarventie
Brannstrom
Sokolov
JBD

New game. How does Lou get a true impact forward on the Island. Options are limited outside of Patrick Kane.
Not sure about impact forward, but Lou seems to like his vets. Maybe a trade with the Peg

Wheeler for Bailey with some draft picks being exchanged, higher one going to Winnipeg

Why would you think? Sanderson draft 5oa in a much stronger draft class.

Sanderson is a little bit of a mess in so far as his development years were impacted by the pandemic and injuries. But we shouldn't be mistaking his potential which is to grow into a top pair D. And based on track records of other high end college picks that stayed the extra year in college, projecting that he's playing at a top pair level by mid 23-24 isn't out of whack.

Dobson is a great player. I think it would take Sanderson+ to get him. Not because he has a higher ceiling though. Because he's in the league and playing at that level. Sanderson isn't.

Patience

Because it's quite idiotic to trade a player of Chabot's caliber. I'd rather dump Norris/Brady for free then get assets for Chabot.

I read 4000 posts here that said there same about trading EK…. Any player can be traded … what justifies trading anyone is what you get in return.

Seems like you're agreeing? Is it just the second "+" you object to?

At the end of the day, one in the hand is worth two in the bush. Maybe eventually Sanderson will surpass Dobson but for now dobson's floor (nhl star) is exponentially higher than Sanderson's.

The fact that this is even a discussion on our board shows how much we (and most people) over-value prospects we've been following. Islanders fans would laugh at an offer of Sanderson + for Dobson.

It would be like the flyers trying to sell us on a Cutter Gauthier + for Brady Tkachuk deal.

"He's a top 5 pick who plays a physical power forward type game who is young and had a great shot. He is going to be an elite power forward for years to come and might even have a better shot than Brady. We'll throw in an add-on since Brady has achieved more"

We would scoff at that proposal just like Isles fans would rightfully scoff at our hypothetical trade.

When we traded EK we committed to a full rebuild tear down.

Imagine trading EK in his prime when we were trying to make noise in the playoffs….

Not the same thing
