Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

The only trade for Norris I could see would be for a clear upgrade - and the player out there is Elias Petterssen. Of course Travis Green knows the player (4 seasons and EP 18 Points in 17 playoff games) - and if your Travis Green and think your upgrading from Kyle Turris to Jason Spezza you demand Staois make the trade.

So in this sense I could see them trading Norris if it’s a clear upgrade - all this lateral talk or scoring forwards, bigger wingers etc etc makes no sense because you don’t ship out a guy who’s been through Belleville and the NHL to score 35 goals for you, for a lateral move to upgrade RW or add a center who doesn’t have the speed and chemistry with Brady but is 20 pounds heavier. Norris a core piece - i see him as a Hejduk / Drury type on a Cup winner, big goal scorer who scores huge goals when needed - BUT

Ott: Petersen
Van: Norris, Yakemchuk

See this more as a summer move if both teams don’t make the playoffs, and if Ottawa makes it and doesn’t go deep they have the excuse to upgrade the lineup of course

The problem with this trade proposal is that Elias Pettersson isn’t very good now and doesn’t like playing hockey. His contract is among the worst in the league. $11.6M for 11 goals and 35 points in 54 games.

I wouldn’t trade Norris straight up for him let alone add Yakemchuk.

I’m fine with Norris. Have you watched Petersson play.

I bet we end up with Michael McCarron. Plays C, fights and only makes $900k this year and next.
this makes sense but i would be disappointed to be honest. I would want to see someone that adds a bit of hype even though that is a dangerous way of thinking of a move.

the team is fighting for a playoff spot not comfortably in and some of the team have waited a long time. Adding a 4th liner doesnt really move the needle

A guy I’d be really interested in prying out of San Jose is Fabian Zetterlund.

16G and 35P this year and a balls to the wall type of player.

Friedman mentioned him on his podcast as a guy to watch. He’s an RFA with arbitration rights, and he’s curious how Grier handles him.

I'd love to get Zetterlund, but the SJS would be dumb to not extend him. He's young enough to grow with their core. He's 25 and might be looking to get paid on a 7-8 year deal, prolly starting at $5 million aav.

I would say even with the rumours it's not the time to trade Norris .We likely want to add a top 6 player not remove one. When Norris is healthy he still capable to be a Top 6 player. This is his first season back from 2 surgery on the same injury .He is having a decent season with how tbing went for him. He will play at least 60 games this season which already feels good for both him and the team. The only thing am sure this guy can do is he can compete.Let's be honest it's not easy to be yourself after not playing something close to a full season for 2 years in the NHL.
Norris is here for now this season .If he plays remaining games + playoff his value will go up for us and rest of the league. I would be open for trades in his case next trade deadline to upgrade not the later when he has some value and less risk.

Norris is not getting moved before the deadline. Staios is in discussions for sure, just like he was last deadline trying to set the table for the Ullmark trade. That’s an offseason trade almost guaranteed.

McCarron I would take for the 4th line. He has size, will fight, and is an effective forechecker. If he takes Gaudette’s spot and takes on some plugs instead of Tkachuk that could be a good piece. Next season you throw him to RW with Ostapchuk. This one could make sense.

You still need to add a 3rd line or middle 6 guy on the cheap though. Whether that’s a Tanev/Donato/Beauvillier/Crouse/Palmieri … we need someone to help roll the lines.

These Batherson rumors are very good.

I feel we should try to trade him for someone around his age and production for change of environment.

McCann
Troy Terry
Alex Tuch (add to him) PRIORITIZE HIM.

IF we cannot do that, do not trade him. He can likely turn it around in a more consistent effort as he is only 26 years old and has scored 60+ points in 4 straight seasons and every season after his sophomore season. That's terrific consistency. Although keep in mind there was no meaningful hockey really played over that course and he has struggled during our most meaningful stretch this year but the facts are still there.

I feel in 3 years he will be an absolute beast.

What about Norris for Boeser? Canucks get a player locked up long term and the Sens get a better fit who can play on Stutzle's wing. Of course I'd want an extension agreed upon.

Disagree to a degree. Adding McCarron takes the onus off of Brady to be the guy policing the other team, important down the stretch as the Sens can I'll afford to have him sitting for 5 at a time (and risking injury!). Also, that 4th line becomes harder to play against Gregor - McCarron - Ostapchuk/MacEwan (once good to go)/ Highmore/Reinhart ... all bigger and faster than Gaudette and able to punish other teams.

The issue with Norris is the same we had with Murray. Its availability. You are playing half you games with a 8mill cap handicap constantly.

I agree we would have to fill that spot but I don't think its impossible. Norris is not some superstar. Him being injured all the time throws the team off and also create a 8mill hole on the roster which we can't spend

I mean you COULD take advantage of the situation. If we were in a better position in the standings, we could LTIR Norris when he gets injured, and could pull a Tampa/Vegas/etc and give up draft picks for a player with a high cap hit on an expiring contract we wouldn't be able to fit in without Norris on the LTIR and then come playoffs, activate Norris.

Bam, playoff cheat code activated.

Post surgery this simply isn’t true unless he suffers a season ending injury next game.

No he’s not a superstar. Yet this is the first time in our history we’ve had 3 really good centers lol.

we almost got there with spezza Turris Pageau but not quite.

I do not want to give up center depth

I mean, we did have in 03-04:

1) 20+ goal, 50+ point Spezza.
2) ~50 point, 2 way veteran Smolinski who was good on faceoffs.
3) 50-70 pts big defensive center in bonk.
4) 40-60 point defensive specialist in white.
5) physical 40 point defense first center in Fisher.

They could literally roll 5 lines worth of practically 2nd line centers.

We're nowhere near that depth today, though I will give you having stutzle gives us a better top end...though Spezza was a season away from 90 points in 68 games lol

Not sure that's the guy - has turned down 5 x $8M from Vancouver, allegedly, and has injury history himself. At best this would be a lateral move, but in reality it would end with us all bemoaning Boeser's anchor contract 3 years into an 8 year deal.

We would honestly be moronic to pursue that without first seeing Norris on the wings himself.

He is better defensively than Boeser and as good as everything else with even same injury filled history.
Perfect players don't tend to get traded unless they're about to leave.

He is reportedly unhappy. He is also perfect due to his association with Stutzle and playing style to fit with him.

I would go hard after him.

Wasn't Peterka himself shocked that the Sens didn't draft him in 2020 after Jiimothy got picked?

i do get what your saying but the issue is that we are 22nd in scoring. Adding McCarron as a secondary add for the reasons you stated i have no issue with although i still do think it wont really move the needle

we do need to add to our offense. We have a top 10 defense but we need our offense to improve both for trying to lock down a playoff spot and any playoff run. Especially if it can be someone that helps 5 on 5 because right now about 31% of our goals have come on some sort of man advantage and those opportunities will go down significantly in the playoffs

BTW, obviously not the same thing, but everyone thought that Staios needed to trade Chychrun, Forsberg, etc. for Ullmark and there was no way we'd get rid of Korpi. Maybe the cost of Peterka wouldn't be nearly as bad as people assume.
