At the end of this yr I expect that the UFAs, Forsberg G, Hamonic RD, Cousins LW, Gaudette RW & Highmore LW will not be re-signed. That frees up around $6 mil & I expect that JBD RD & Gregor LW could also be gone to free up more money & roster spots. Giroux will likely be re-signed at a lower salary ($4.5). In the end, we could see enough money available this summer to sign another $8 mil player & the cap is going up.

Both Jensen RD & Perron's contracts will be over after next season & while I don't see them re-signing either they could afford to sign a couple of better & younger replacements as the cap goes up again. Yak will be on his ELC & sooner or later should be on the roster to add a little more offence from the defence as well as add a little more toughness to the team.

Giroux - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Perron
Ostapchuk - Halliday - Amadio = $55 mil

Sanderson - Zub

i follow the logic and it all makes sense im just curious what numbers did you give for resigning kleven, matinpalo and merilainen?

because from my end i low balled them and gave kleven 2 million, matinpalo 1 million and merilainen 1 million and without having yak on the roster i have 7.4 million in cap to spend on a forward but that would max our cap out while running a minimum roster. I doubt staios and company would want to put us in a similar situation as this year.

If we factor in an extra forward and extra dman we will be at 5.8 million roughly. That depends on if we want to carry the extra players but either way i expectt staios to keep 1-2 million as flexibility for injuries and the deadline.

so i really see us having the budget for a forward in the 3.5-5.5 range (probably on the lower end because i expect us to carry an extra forward and sebrango as the extra dman since he will be waiver eligible)

How many games as he missed beyond the shoulder issues.

That question is a fallacy, because he missed so much time due to the shoulder injury, that the opportunity for him to miss other games wasn't there. You can't miss games due to an LBI when you're sitting out entire chunks of seasons for shoulder injuries.

This season alone, he missed 8 out of 60 games so far. That's about 11 games over an 82 game season. We only have a small sample size to evaluate because he has been out with a shoulder injury for almost half of his entire career as a Senator.

The only two pro seasons that he didn't miss games were both the COVID shortened seasons (one of those two being in the AHL). Prior to those two seasons, his final College season was shut down early due to a shoulder injury.

With that said, the shoulder injury is the primary issue. The other time missed is a secondary issue. Looking at all the evidence, I think the burden of proof at this point would be on posters who want to prove that he is durable, not that he is injury prone. Norris being injury prone is an objective conclusion based on the high percentage of games he has missed since his 2021-2022.

i did about 2 million for injuries/wiggle room for trade. I did roundish numbers when i said 3.5 to 5.5 but it would be 3.8-5.4 roughly. Again i expect it to be closer to 3.8 since we probably carry an extra forward and dman but at the very least an extra dman.

And the 2 million is probably not enough wiggle room either but we do have a need for a forward and have no forward that we can comfortably plug into a top 9 spot from the minors. I wouldnt be surprised if we try for a lottery ticket/reclamation signing and keep more wiggle room.

I do think we got to be realistic with the wiggle room where if its going to end up being 7 million at the deadline its going to be way too much because its rare that players of that cap hit get moved

I’d say with a 22 man roster, 3 million wiggle room would be nice, but ya 2 is the bare minimum.

pretty much, the only way around it is if giroux was willing to take a 1 year at a time deal and we give him a bonus based deal this year. Would allow us to get a 5-6 million dollar forward and his bonuses would hit our cap the following year when perron/jensen are off the cap sheet

again this is all of the exercise that we bring a similar team back. Since we arent trying Norris on the wing for whatever reason i wouldnt be surprised if we try to move him in the offseason. I personally wouldnt like it but i see the logic in trying to move him

I read that Ottawa has shown interest in Mario Ferraro, so I wonder if they consider Tyler Kleven a long-term piece or if they'd dangle him to bring in a forward.

If they think Yakemchuk will be ready to make the jump next year, they may want a veteran LD to pair with him. Plus we're locked into Sanderson and Chabot in the top 4 on the left side.

If we're interested in acquiring a younger forward who has control that could potentially play in the top 6, Kleven is a piece that would probably have value.

Between Norris and Batherson, I'm kinda unsure who is the more valuable to trade.

Norris' risks:
- Injury prone, misses probably 20-40 games a season.
- Term on contract

Batherson's risks:
- Without obvious injuries, fogs a mirror for probably 20-40 games a season and not much else.
- Coaches keep trying to make fetch happen and it's costing us wins.

On the one hand, with the injuries you can at least LTIR someone and wind up with extra cap space. On the other, it does suck to have $8m locked up to a guy who only plays to that value 50% of the season.

The big question is how much did his off season surgery work for him? If Norris is in the lineup for 60+ games a year, he's worth keeping and is clearly the better player.

I wonder if they could consider Norris. They are a team that has the cap flexibility to take a risk on him. Norris, Celebrini, and Smith would be a very solid group for them.

Ferraro is a UFA at the end of the 2026 season, so it makes sense that they might try to sell high when he has term.

If he could play his offside, he would be infinitely more useful in our lineup.
