5 centres signed for next year. Either Norris or Greig is getting moved after the season IMO.
If Greig was getting moved, I don't think they would have gone 4 years. That makes him a lot more difficult to trade.
If the trade is in season, he would have been easier to move without an extension. In the offseason, the acquiring team might want some cost certainty, but 4 years would make it more difficult to build up a market than 1 or 2 years where his cap hit would have likely been somewhere around 2.XXM.
I think that this move points to Norris being 99 percent gone, and Pinto being the other 1 percent. I think they want Greig cost controlled because they project for him to play a greater role after Norris is dealt.
Greig has played in a bigger role the past month or so, and there are no signs that they are going to move him back down the lineup.
If Norris is traded soon, I think it will be something like Norris for 1 or 2 veteran players who are not exciting but fill two roles for the cost of his cap hit, and don't have the risk of his term.
