Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

5 centres signed for next year. Either Norris or Greig is getting moved after the season IMO.

If Greig was getting moved, I don't think they would have gone 4 years. That makes him a lot more difficult to trade.

If the trade is in season, he would have been easier to move without an extension. In the offseason, the acquiring team might want some cost certainty, but 4 years would make it more difficult to build up a market than 1 or 2 years where his cap hit would have likely been somewhere around 2.XXM.

I think that this move points to Norris being 99 percent gone, and Pinto being the other 1 percent. I think they want Greig cost controlled because they project for him to play a greater role after Norris is dealt.

Greig has played in a bigger role the past month or so, and there are no signs that they are going to move him back down the lineup.

If Norris is traded soon, I think it will be something like Norris for 1 or 2 veteran players who are not exciting but fill two roles for the cost of his cap hit, and don't have the risk of his term.

I don’t get the sense that the Sens really think of Greig as a C.

They have passed up every opportunity to play him at C all season. Green has talked about him “learning” how to play wing. Even when Pinto was out, they threw Ostapchuk out as 3C and left Greig on the wing.

Stutzle needs 2 wingers. I'm not going to say these guys below, but their equivalent impact someone.

Guentzel-Stutzle-C.Brown
Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Giroux-Pinto-Greig
Cousins-Ostapchuk-Raddysh

Chabot-Jensen
Sanderson-Zub
Kleven-Rutta

Ullmark
Samsonov

Zub needs to be on his way out(injuries, love the player tho). Perron on his way out(with Giroux coming back 3rd line role, no room for him). Amadio on his way out(solid player but can't afford 2+ mil on 4th liner.)

I don't want Miller. When he's on his game, he's an all round beast, but when he's off, he's a liability in his own zone and in the locker room.

If we're going for a win now mode (considering our lack of picks and prospects), and hoping he clicks, sure go for him, but not sure he's the right fit long term.

It’s the same team that was a juggernaut just like 10 months ago lol
That team was carried by otherworldly goaltending though. Their stars all choked and were exposed.

Since then Drury broke his own lockerroom by saying anyone was available, traded his captain, treated another vet like Goodrow like crap, and have allowed Laviolette to continue stifling young talent on that team.

i think they realize we need wingers and that Greig is the most versatile one to succeed as a W.

i don't think they doubt that he can play C since that is where he has looked the best.

just that it would be nice if he becomes a great winger that they can throw at C when needed.

The second paragragh. I'm guessing he is going to be the third line center with Pinto as the second. Norris will get moved and the returning package will have us scratching our heads...and then work out like the Jensen trade. It'll add pieces up front and on defence. Staios and the gang think things through. The move will probably happen in the summer. Do teams ever make a deadline deal and then another small one to even things up later? To make numbers and contracts and things work better, but still have value?

I’m sure they don’t doubt he can play C, but that’s not the same thing as wanting him to. Maybe they want size down the middle, I don’t know.

More or less I just think if a C like Norris is moved they will use a vet to replace him, I don’t think they have plans to play Greig at C in general. Obviously I could be wrong, but even when he was on the 4th line they left Ostapchuk as the centre there.
