Absolutely. We're very lucky that Ostapchuk is a hit pick though, that's money in the bank.
With Ostapchuk's size, skating and defensive awareness, he seems to be holding his own and competing well on the 4th line. As he develops with more NHL experience, I think he could climb up at least one line to line 3; perhaps more if he develops a scoring touch.

I think there are two guys that could help the Sens, one this yr & one in the off season.

Michael McCaron C/RW is not a great hockey player but he is a huge experienced player who will fight & give Brady a break, plays 4th line C which we could use & is a good defensive player. He could probably be had at the trade deadline given Nashville will likely be a seller, but what they would want for him is unknown. We'll probably need about 25 to 26 guys for a playoff push & McCaron given his size & toughest would help Ott in a playoff push & in the playoffs & Ott could use some more toughest in their lineup especially in the playoffs.

Brock Boeser RW is in his last yr of his contract & it will be interesting if he wants to stay in Van. Green knows him & Ott could use a RW especially with Giroux also in his last yr. He's the guy I would go after in the off season to add a little more muscle & scoring to the top six & they could find the money with Giroux likely taking a pay cut, if they decide to re-sign him.
Or Mathieu Olivier whom I think Columbus will re-sign unfortunately
Brady would never have to fight again lol
Broeser would be perfect replacement for Giroux but if Claude stays we won't have the money I think

I don't particularly like the idea of moving a skater out right now when the team is just finding chemistry.

Forsberg is different, because as the backup he isn't playing every night and can only have so much impact.
I would make a trade at almost any time if I felt that it would provide a significant benefit to the team (either today or in the future).

McCaron is a BIG guy at 6"6" and 231 lbs. He will turn age 30 in March 2025. He seems to be the type that gets some PIMs. I have not seen him play. Is he very slow?

Brock Boeser is the better player and knows how to score as shown by his stats. I doubt that we could afford him as a UFA; we would likely have to trade someone else such as Perron , Amadio or Giroux to gain the cap space.

I think Ostapchuck has some scoring touch. He just needs to learn to create more time and space for himself, where he can utilize his skills.

McCaron is an NHLer by circumstance alone.

What about Reimer from Buffalo? He’s having a pretty good year. We could bury Forsberg and it would come out to essentially a wash. Would be relatively cheap to acquire, only 1-year remaining, and gives us a legit reliable backup.

Edit: my math if off about it being a wash. We’d be adding about ~700k in this scenario. I’d consider that a huge win for upgrading the backup position though.

What would the price be? Late round draft pick? Could we up the draft pick to swap Forsberg for Reimer?

Seem a like we're helping the hawks unload a barf contract and we get to give them our up and coming rd.

Imo there's better deals to be had

But in our window he’s the right player for this team and all its needs, Big RD, can create offense which we need, play on the top pair, experience and entering his prime for a D

I’m in the win and do it now when we have all these studs in Their prime and under contract and Ullmark keeping the net

I’ve kind of lost the plot on Seth Jones…I’m assuming he doesn’t actually completely suck?
Like he’s not worth his contract but still an average top pairing guy or…?

That's a really brutal contract long term that I would imagine Chicago might be thrilled to get off the books.

If Jones was willing to waive to get out of Chicago, there won't be many destinations. We also would need to move out a big contract.

It would have to be something like Jones with retention for Norris. Money and term would need to move out to fit Jones in. Moving out Chabot wouldn't make sense in this context. We obviously aren't moving Stutzle, Sanderson, Ullmark, or Tkachuk for Jones.

I doubt Jones would waive to come here - but if he thought that the rebuild in Chicago was not going to end anytime soon, and we continue this kind of play going into the TDL, maybe he would relent and waive to go to a team that looks like they are done their rebuild.

Rather get a guy in the 6M range from UFA and keep Yakemchuk.

I don't think getting a top 4 defenseman from UFA is realistic. Which is not a defense of trading for Jones, which is more unrealistic. Maybe we can overpay and get whoever is the Michael Amadio of defensemen next year, but we're not getting the Tanev or Roy type defensemen.

If we want a defenseman, we likely need to do what we did we Jensen. Target a player with term.
