Joseph is very inconsistent. Moving a 3rd to dump him in a vacuum is fine. Especially considering that they needed to make changes to the room, and they didn't have the cap flexibility to do that. It's very clear that there was no market for Joseph.

Whether you want to argue that we didn't take advantage of that cap space, and that Perron, Ullmark, Amadio, and Jensen were not good additions, that is a different discussion.

Inconsistent offensively, but the rest of his game is remarkably consistent.

He brought an excellent effort level, above-average defensive play and tenacious forechecking every night, and he's a consistent generator of powerplay for his team by moving his feet and forcing the opposition to take penalties.

Even if he's only produces at his career average 30P/82GP he's worth about 3M a season for the rest of what he brings to the table. Definitely not worth dumping at the cost of a 3rd.

Kinda wierd he doesn’t get the “cup winner” treatment that so many other players do”

I don't think we are going to burn anything but we do need better thinking even to improve the team. TSN 1200 they were talking about trading a core peice down the middle for a defensemen. Why? We have seen multiple defensemen who can play bottom pair and move up to 2nd pair go for minimal assets
Because we need a top 4 RD. Zub when not injured has been bad.

Zub started the season looking excellent. Maybe better than ever. Sanderson too. Chabot too. And Kleven and jensen looked great.
JBD was looking good.

It has taken a bad turn.

Well, after the concussion, I agree, so two weeks of bad. I seem to recall this happened last time he got concussed too, came back and didn't look great for a while.

Hopefully he's back to his old self in the new year once his foot heals.

14. Drury is working to figure out what he actually can do, up and down the roster. Trade protection — limited or full — is a hurdle. Ottawa is being very careful about what it says, but I do think that’s a team the Rangers have talked to.

I don't see the match here unless it's something smaller and more short term around the edges. The guys I could see us having serious interest in (Schneider, Lafreniere) are not the guys they're going to trade.

Idk, the only guy on the rangers I'm interested in is Schneider. Doubt they have any interest in moving him though.
I made a similar comment on the trade board... Smith and (unrealistically) Schneider being the two guys that I would like to add.

Smith would help guys slot in a lot more to their capabilities, imo. I dont believe Perron will be that player, otherwise I would see Smith as a bit more redundant, but he can bring a level of consistency and scoring that we still lack throughout our lineup.

In another media hit (on NHL network) he seemed to indicate the interest was in Kreider.

I guess that's were we differ, I still have hope for Perron, despite them not putting up a lot of pts, I thought Perron-Pinto-Amadio were quite good together before Perron's leave of absence and Pinto's injury.

I also wouldn't mind trying Perron-Greig-Amadio as a line once Perron is back, I think that has the makings of a solid third line if we try Pinto or Norris on the wing.

also, not sure how Reilly Smith fits in capwise. isn't he making 5m?

Something around Greig for Kakko? Amadio for R.Smith? One of KAM or Lindgren if Staois is going to continue to shake up the D? Feels like there's a lot of potential fits with the Rangers and an increased sense of urgency for Staois and Drury.

Greig for Kakko would be an interesting one though the cap might be tight,

I don't see them moving on from Miller or Lindgren and if we're going after a D I'd really want it to be a RHD.

Smith won't fit under the cap so far as I can tell.

I agree about the RD. The only way I see it "working" is if Staois decides beggars can't be choosers and takes whatever minute munching D man he can get. Seems more like a short sighted Dorion move than anything the current regime would do.

As far as Smith, I think something like this is (very) close cap wise, but I think Ottawa would need to tack on a pick or another piece to get the Rangers to bite (and they'd have to consider Amadio a positive value asset).

To NY Rangers: Ridley Greig, Michael Amadio, Jacob Bernard-Docker (+?)
To Ottawa: Kappo Kakko, Riley Smith (50% retained)

I'd love to get someone like Kakko or Smith off the Rags. Perron & Greig for Kakko & Smith would be a nice middle 6 shake up. I'd even be open to a deal with Perron for Kreider if the cap can work.

Would love it if Drury went full panic mode and traded us Schneider without us having to give up too much.

I think we can assume Perron is off the table, being a recent UFA signing and with everything going on with his family.
