Joseph is very inconsistent. Moving a 3rd to dump him in a vacuum is fine. Especially considering that they needed to make changes to the room, and they didn't have the cap flexibility to do that. It's very clear that there was no market for Joseph.
Whether you want to argue that we didn't take advantage of that cap space, and that Perron, Ullmark, Amadio, and Jensen were not good additions, that is a different discussion.
Inconsistent offensively, but the rest of his game is remarkably consistent.
He brought an excellent effort level, above-average defensive play and tenacious forechecking every night, and he's a consistent generator of powerplay for his team by moving his feet and forcing the opposition to take penalties.
Even if he's only produces at his career average 30P/82GP he's worth about 3M a season for the rest of what he brings to the table. Definitely not worth dumping at the cost of a 3rd.
