Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Ott: Shesterkin, Lafreniere
NYR: Brady, Ullmark
If we get Shesterkin (or any other good player via trade), I just hope Staios doesn't sign him as soon as he did with Ullmark. Even if he gets a fat contract, let the man earn it with his on ice performance as a senator.

Hope NYR loses Shesterkin for nothing in FA this year

Pinto for Schneider could make some sense.

I don't know if the Rangers have room for Pinto and if they can afford to move Schneider.

Was thinking Schneider could be a target back when Fox and Trouba looked like they had the top 2 RD spots locked down long-term, but Trouba sucks now and the Rangers are trying to get rid of him.

Plus Chytil has come back, so their top 3 center spots look full at the moment.

If I had to take a guess at what we are/were discussing with the Rangers, I'd guess a swap of Norris and Kreider.

But zero chance Kreider agrees to waive his NTC to leave NY to come here of all places.

Pinto for Chytil with some pieces exchanged to make the cap work? One injury-prone budding 2C for another?

Chytil has had way too many concussions for the Sens to consider that swap.

He's a bad hit away from never playing again. Pinto may be injury prone but that risk isn't present with him.

Norris+JBD for Lindgren+Kreider is the base.

The Rangers will retain on Lindgren to make it cap in/cap out. His contract expires at the end of this season.

We have no defensemen, and JBD is till barely playing 10 minutes a night. So he is basically a throw in. Lindgren fits exactly what we need right now on D and he is gone from the Rangers at the end of the year. It gives the Senators the inside track to extend him, but they also can flip him at the deadline for draft picks.

It's basically Kreider is entering his Phaneuf years, so they subsidize Norris being overpaid by taking Kreider. It would also be a craft move because if Brady is made available, having Norris gives them a bit of an edge.

Obviously, I'm only an HFBoards fake insider. I don't even have access to Capfriendly anymore, so my work is slipping. But the above would be my guess.

It would not surprise me if we're not on Kreider's list because before July 1st we looked pretty much set for our top 6 and had very little projected cap flexibility. I could see how his agent might have seen it as a possible waste of a spot.

Kreider for Norris makes a lot of sense to me. Both players have very obvious downsides. Norris has the worse contract, but Kreider has the more apparent decline. Kreider is also a "veteran", and we know Staios covets veterans for the room and had a difficult time getting them. Hence overpaying Perron to bring in a professional who could help with that aspect. (Unfortunately, the stuff going on with his family probably made it difficult for him.)

I dunno if I'm an American-born guy who has played his entire career in his home country, I'm putting all of the Canadian teams on my NTC list to avoid the possibility of having to play in Canada altogether.

I'd put the odds we're on his NTC at 90%+

To NYR: JT Miller
To Vancouver: Josh Norris
To Ottawa: Filip Chytil, Ryan Lindgren

That’s the type if trade I could see happening.

The Rangers get the guy they want, Canucks get a replacement to play behind Pettersson, Ottawa gets a cheaper C and veteran defenseman who can play 20 minutes a night.

You can walk away from Lindgren in July and use the cap elsewhere.

So you're good with this? Just keep running out the same core group? Hope that "something" changes and they go on a streak? Just curious.
Because of the questions about his shoulder, he won't get anything in a trade so it would be a change for change's sake. I don't think it'll make a bit of difference in the standings. This core is already so fragile, don't think trying to scare them out of it is going to work. Could actually make them worse. Look at how they reacted (and played for a period of time) when DJ was fired.

If you truly want to change the core so that it helps the team right now, then you'd have to trade a player who has value: Brady or Stu. Stu is the best, most talented player on this roster, wouldn't make sense to trade him. Brady should bring a lot back but many fans will be very upset and it could make the remaining core even worse.

I don't see any quick fixes for this team because all of the core is so fragile. Will moving 1 or 2 of them out change anything if you're not getting the same quality of player back? They'll also have a hard time attracting FA and there is no prospect pool to speak of, that will take years to replenish.

I think management wants this group to figure it out internally because there aren't many options available to them to fix it externally.

Yup. Clear cap and run at Rantannen!!

It's not even pining, it's that guys were brought in to help the team have flat out failed and it's f***ing annoying, especially when we paid to get rid of similar players that we brought in.

EDIT: It's also why I started by saying I'd be ok with a reset around Sanderson and Stutzle
It's what they could attract at the price they could pay. Is there a destination worse than Ottawa at the moment (from UFA player perspective)? In the past I would've said Winnipeg but they're in the playoff hunt. Maybe Buffalo but they have a much better prospect pool than us.

The only way they can improve the team is via trade but they have nothing of value to offer without dismantling the team. Even an experienced GM can't fix that, they're not wizards.

It's merely a nervous example. Why was it done? Why the 3rd? Why the wasted assets? Again, I have no idea what the future holds for this team, but being in the same position in December as the last several years has to be frustrating to all. I'm almost done at this point and I'm a pretty die hard fan.

Can this new GM make some of the trades that change the culture of the club? Some of the recent moves are red flags, while others are positives, but my personal opinion is that I kind of wish we had a more established guy.
I think SS wanted to bring in vets to help change the culture with the core, bringing in players who have won before and know what it takes it win. Well, it hasn't worked out so far, the core is still as fragile as ever and now are reverting back to their old style of play instead of playing the way JM and Green have shown them. I guess management will now have to consider swapping out some of the core. But even that will only work if they get back quality players, like they did with Jensen for Chychrin.

I thought the team could have kept Chychrun and traded Chabot. He's a goal scorer from the blueline which the team needs and his defensive problems could have been mitigated with a partner like Jensen. But the big bonus would have been the $3.4 million in cap savings compered to Chabot.
Nobody would've taken Chabot at a salary of $10M and we wouldn't have gotten Jensen. They would've had to retain some salary and get peanuts in return. Who knows if Chychrun even wanted to play here? He really seemed uninterested last year. Was it due to his usage where his strength wasn't being used on PP1 and he had to be the guy to play on his off-side? It really was surprising to me that they put Sandy on PP1 instead of him.

It's funny. When a player is playing good, people use his cap hit and not the money being paid.....but if a player is playing poorly they use the money being paid and not the cap.

Chych was on PP1 for over half the season. He’s getting 45 less seconds per game this year PP

Eliminate the rangers and make 2-way, the Sens part is bad.

Chychurn got 2:41 of PP time (second for D), in Ottawa and 1:52 in Washington

Miller has a NMC and almost certainly wouldn’t come to Ottawa.
Ok pass then, Lindgren is overpaid and Rangers can’t wait to dump him.
