You are dreamingGiroux should come in around $3 million per year for 2 years if he wants to stay.
Zero chanceGiroux should come in around $3 million per year for 2 years if he wants to stay.
See below at the bottom of this postI wonder if Brock Boeser RW will hit the open market & what the Sens could do to entice him to Ott? My guess is that he will stay in Van or go down south to play for the highest bidder. He would be a very interesting Trade Deadline acquisition although Van will likely be a playoff team & be a buyer rather than trade anyone off there roster especially him.
Yep, agreed.I'd love to sign him in the offseason, but money may be tight if we're also re-signing Giroux.
There was a thread for next years roster and cap. I guess people didn’t look at it. Likely not as much cap space as some are anticipating. Can we afford ehlers in the open market?
Age is going to catch up to him at some point.Giroux should come in around $3 million per year for 2 years if he wants to stay.
im hopeful that giroux would rather an even better chance at a cup, than an extra 2 m after 90 mill in career earnings.
half that is still multi generational wealth.
If that’s the case, there are 12 or so other teams in a better position for that than Ottawa.
does he want to uproot his family when the biggest reason he came here is because its home?
But only one team in his hometown! If that’s the case, there are 12 or so other teams in a better position for that than Ottawa.

Dont think the cap with be there for more then $3.75
I’ll say he does
2 x $3.75
With Pastrnak being benched, I'd go that route 1st... Tkachuk-Stutzle-Pastrnak would be a fun ride.Ott: Brad Marchand
Bos: 2nd round pick
.

I’m hoping Giroux wants to stay, he’s not taking a big haircut when still producing.im hopeful that giroux would rather an even better chance at a cup, than an extra 2 m after 90 mill in career earnings.

Performance bonuses just hurt a year later, and hurt improving team that year. Especially easy ones. They can make extra room for Giroux by using paper performance bonuses that are easy for him to reach and could roll over to the next season.
For example, Pavelski signed at 5.5M but 2M was in performance bonuses awarded at 10gp and 30gp. Unless Giroux slows down, I could see something like that.
Granted, we overpaid Perron because we aren't a top destination, he got 2 years at 4M AAV and he is not the player Giroux is. Giroux at 3.75M is very unlikely unless he takes a haircut to help the team.
I'll preface this with I think people are crazy thinking Giroux will sign for anything less than 5 mil, but...That’s a different story from wanting a better chance at winning a Cup.
If that really mattered to him, he’d play elsewhere, not drop a couple million back in cap savings to Ottawa.

I think the idea he was trying to convey is that he can stay here and not uproot his family, and by taking 3 mil instead of 5 or whatever, he also gives himself and the team a better chance at the cup so he's hoping Giroux will take a home town discount is all rather than push for as much as he can get from us specifically.
I think the only way we get a team friendly deal is by giving him an extra year. He won't (likely) be a pt per game player at 39/40 years old, so a three year deal might come in a bit lower than a 2 year deal. I still think 5 mil is probably the best case scenario, he could choose to go year to year and probably get 6 mil until his play drops off.No I get the rationale, but he signed for market value when he came originally.
If he produces like a top six forward, I don’t see him taking 3rd line dollars to do the team any favours.
If he produces like a bottom six forward, we will still have a hole to fill even if we do sign him.
I see a lot of wishful thinking here.

Alfredsson had 71 pts in 70 games as a 36 year old (same age as Giroux now)Agreed.
There's a certain Alfie quality to him though. He might still be worth the gamble.

He dropped down to .57 pts/g, .78pts/g, .55pts/g and .72pts/game in his final 4 years, so a significant drop off even in the high years.
Micklebot said:Alfie was still a very good player to have around at age 37-40. I expect similar from Giroux, and hope he'll finish his career here.
Sure, but it's the progression that's important. Both start off at about a pt per game, whether league scoring is only matters if it's changing (though so far this year it is a bit higher than last).True, but league scoring was also a bit lower than it is now.
