You missed Hamonic at 1.1MHere is a 2024-25 roster. $86,733,714.
Players under contract for next year are included. Hence, players not under contract are generally/mostly not included.
The notables include:
1. A new 2nd line winger for $5 m (or re-sign Tarasenko @ $5m)
2. Pinto with a new bridge contract @ $2.3 m (quite conservative, might cost more)
3. 2nd pair -> Chabot and a new RD @ $7 m. For those that prefer Chychrun, think of it as a $15 m budget for the 2nd pair, plus we'd save (add) $2.4 m to our budget. Chychrun will need a new contract though for 2025-26.
4. Kleven & JBD as the 3rd pair.
About $770 k under the cap. Can't see where the budget supports all these other players that are mentioned in posts unless perhaps Chabot is moved while keeping Chychrun, or a less expensive player moves higher up in the lineup.

Pass on his $11M contract... even with only 2 years remainingHold onto your balls:
To Ottawa:
2024 1st
2026 1st
Matthew Knies
John Tavares
To Toronto:
Josh Norris
Chychrun
Brannstrom
Not something I would even consider. 1sts are too late, Tavares is a cap dump, and we're basically helping them retool, likely effectively.Hold onto your balls:

Ah yes. I had Hamonic as the 7D in the previous spreadsheet version, but decided to dump him. You're right, I forgot to mention that. You missed Hamonic at 1.1M
This is like Zibanejad plus a second for BrassardWhy would we trade the younger, faster, more productive player on a near identitical contract along with a 2nd round pick for Laughton?
It makes us older, slower and worse + we lose a pick.
Makes absolutely 0 sense to make that deal.
The proposal was a bit tongue in cheek since its so unrealistic, but the rationale is basically:Not something I would even consider. 1sts are too late, Tavares is a cap dump, and we're basically helping them retool, likely effectively.
It's a "No" for me! Keep an effective younger player and let Philly pay the old declining player. The Flyers apparently liked Joseph earlier in the year when he was being talked about as a cap dump. As in, it wasn't just about the sweetener, they liked the player.
Joseph has been tremendous since then. I still get the feeling that we could see him moved. There are very little moves that Staios can make outside of the core because of how big most of the contracts are.
It will be something like Joseph and a 2nd for Laughton.
Gets Flyers and asset but also doesn't hurt them in their playoff run.
I agree that we should trade the 3 UFAs; however, I think Kubalik and Chartier are not likely to gain anything off value in return. I would keep Tarasenko if he were to sign a contract with us for the next few years at a reasonable declining rate; if not then trade him. I wonder if the Friedman rumour of the Senators having an interest in Kaliyev is smoke for a trade of Tarasenko to LA.I would definitely move out the three UFAs (Tarasenko, Kubalic & Chartier) although it doesn't hurt to have Chartier in Belleville as a callup. I would also move Brannstrom & Hamonic (or waive him or buy him out) & have JBD as the 7th D for next season, but JBD could be on the ropes as well. There are a number of RD who could be available through free agency Montour FL, Pesce Car, Roy LA, Dumba Arz, Tanev Cal & Myers Van along with others. Ottawa should be able to get one or two on a 2 to 3 yr contract who can come in & fill a role, it's there biggest need. I would also like to see how Guennette would do in a 3rd pairing role with Kleven, but if they are not ready there are going to be plenty of defencemen available & Ott should have some money to sign at least one good one. I would also have a decision & plan available regarding Chabot & Chychrun on which one to keep & whether we trade one which I think we should.
Fair enough, I sort of figured. The proposal was a bit tongue in cheek since its so unrealistic, but the rationale is basically:
I think that 2026 pick might be high.
I think norris isnt worth his current contract and i worry about his injuries. I don't think he's the guy to build around, so I'm okay to send him to the leafs.
JT is tradeable. Retain 50% on him and deal him this deadline for a 1st+. We're eating 5.5M next season for the return.
That gives us Knies and three 1sts for Norris and chych and $5.5M in dead cap next season.
I think they have to move on from Brannstrom, but agree with the rest. He's just too small, too soft & too weak defensively & IMO Kleven should be ready to take that 3rd pairing LD spot in Ott. It will be interesting what they do with Chychrun & Chabot, whether they choose one or keep both. My guess is that they wait to the summer to decide with them. If Tarasenko is not interested in re-signing here than they will need to move him & get back as much as they can. I think NHL GMS will remember that Kubalik was a 40 pt player only a yr ago & maybe blame our team more than the player, we'll see.I agree that we should trade the 3 UFAs; however, I think Kubalik and Chartier are not likely to gain anything off value in return. I would keep Tarasenko if he were to sign a contract with us for the next few years at a reasonable declining rate; if not then trade him. I wonder if the Friedman rumour of the Senators having an interest in Kaliyev is smoke for a trade of Tarasenko to LA.
I think I would rather keep Brannstrom and trade JBD.
Let's have a look at Norris on LW before trading him, he has proven in the past to be a prolific scorer & should return to that once he is completely healthy. And it would be good to have an extra Centre or two around in case of injuries, what happens if Stutzle gets hurt? Wthout Norris you are eft with Pinto & Greig the two young guys & both of them have had some injury problems too.
Norris - Pinto - Batherson
- could be a very good line, two big guys, lots of speed, good defensively, two good faceoff guys one right & one left. Bath the playmaker, Norris the sniper & Pinto the big C down the middle. The line has everything. Norris had 55 pts & 35 goals just two seasons ago & he is only 24 yrs old.
What is CIH?Bobby Ryan and Jason York were proposing exactly this line on CIH. Worth a shot.

What is CIH?
Joseph is arguably our best PK forward, brings a speed element our team badly needs and has been the spark plug on every line he’s played on this season.
This proposal seems quite lateral if we’re losing Joseph to add Laughton. I get we want to add experience but Laughton seems like he’d fill the same type of role at the cost of a second.
The Joseph rebound season and emergence of Greig have certainly made me think we should focus on bigger fish to fill the 2nd LW slot rather than the third line.
Those first two deals seem a bit optimistic, no?Trade Deadline:
