If anyone in the top 4 gets injured, the most likely candidate is Chychrun. Brannstrom has experience playing the offside and has shown he can fill in a top 4 role and perform amicably. Neither JBD or Kleven have proven that yet, and I personally believe that Kleven should get a year of AHL experience first for more seasoning before he makes the jump, better for him and us long term imo. Keep Brannstrom.

2nd LW will be Kubalic, 3rd LW should be Soko or Smejkal. I'd rather run with that lineup and see how they perform first. Reevaluate things by tdl and make any needed adjustments then if necessary.
Yea, I don't agree with that at all, Kleven is already very good & JBD will be on this team due to waiver ineligibility. The $2 mil that Brannstrom makes could go towards improving our forward depth & should IMO.

Yes JBD will be the 6th/7th D, he's alrdy pencilled in. It's already understood Hammy wont be playing every game, that was made clear. Kleven starts in the A and maybe gets called up later in the season if Brannstrom is shipped off at the tdl.

Send Joseph & Brannstrom & free up about $5 mil in any package for those guys, we don't need either & have plenty of depth on both sides on D, we won't miss Brannstrom. Laughton is the cheapest & probably the easiest salary to fit our salary structure.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Kubalik
Laughton - Norris - Giroux
Smejkal - Pinto - Batherson
Kelly - Kastelic - MacEwen/Sokolov = $48 mil approx.

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Chychrun
Kleven - Hamonic/JBD = $21 mil

Korpisalo - Forsberg = $7 mil plus Dead Cao $5 mil = $12 mil

Forwards $48 mil + Defence $21 mil + Goalies/Dead Cap $12 mil = $81 mil
As another poster mentioned , an ideal target would be Lawson Crouse. Big, strong left winger that has consecutive 20 goal seasons. And he is locked in at $4.3 million cap for the next 4 years.

Never heard it was made clear, do you have a link to that.
Not surprising though, just never heard it.

Sundqvist

Kick the tires Pierre.

If we were going to trade for a forward at the deadline, I still don't get why we wasted on a 6th round pick on a complete nobody like Patrick Brown when Sundqvist was traded for only a 4th round pick.

I didn't want to trade anything more for immediate help after trading for Chychrun already, but at least Sundqvist would have made some sense as a guy who could help down the stretch and audition for the 3rd line RW role this year.

I could see someone taking on Brannstrom, though I don’t think he’d have much trade value. He could be tacked on to a deal. I still think he provides valuable depth and would try to keep him for now if possible.

Joseph seems like a negative value guy though. Philly apparently already turned down a 1st for Laughton. How much more would we have to add to get them to move Laughton AND take Joseph? Is Laughton really worth that much?

At least Konecny and Crouse fit the age group contention window better.

another head scratcher move that made zero sense to help us over the hump. Yzerman got Kubalik for free . Maybe we get Sundqvist for free.
Dorion could be looking for a bigger move first. Josh Bailey lol

“I think Jacob Bernard-Docker showed every time he came up here he got better. Every callup, he was better. He wouldn’t have gone back to Belleville if we were still in the race and they weren’t still in their race. So, I think with Jacob, he’s still got to work on some things. He’s got to work… whether it’s puck touches or just boxing out better, but he showed that he’s able to play here. I think it’s his spot to lose.

Konecny, Laughton and Crouse are all great fits but the sens should be priced out given acquisition cost and salaries (unless they can include Joseph but that would likely further increase acquisition cost).

The sens need to restock the cupboard as they keep building. Unfortunately I think they’ll need to hope for a late career progression season from Joseph.
Crouse is the only one I’d pay a 1st + Greig for.

Also, not sure why so many people are keen on trading Brannstrom with Chabot and Chychrun’s inability to stay healthy.

There’s a decent chance neither one of them plays 65 games next year. Our lack of depth killed us last year when our top guys got injured.
Injuries dont happen in the offseason everyone stays healthy!

I’m not sure how other teams are fixed for d-men, but PD may have to wait until training camp for interest to pick up on Branstsrom.

It's pretty rare for players to be traded after signing an extension.

I don't think Brannstrom is going anywhere.

Only way I could see him being dealt is if Kleven blows the doors off in training camp and steals his spot.

Thanks for digging up.
Since then now Hamonic has signed, and Pierre does say a lot of things.
I’m assuming they’ll both end up playing in the 50-60+ range when injuries are factored in.
No question with this coaching staff .. It may no longer be.,

Why does it feel like we're about to overpay for Laughton and pay more for him than what we got for Debrincat?

Sweet Jesus help us from this idiot of a GM.

Can't wait for the he played for the coach in juniors and the worlds puff piece from Bruce.

We have to move the best part of what we got for DeBrincat for sure.
The 1 year to UFA piece , and probably the depth prospect are safe.

It's not clear, Hamonic was great last yr for them, he is big, he's tough, he blocks shots, he plays on the PK, he fights & he had 21 pts last yr. He does so much more than Brannstrom, we don't need Brannstrom, we do need more size on D & that's what Kleven brings size, toughness, hard hitting & good defensive play & won't get pushed around in his own end.

A few names mentioned with nothing like a report... just possible targets.
Konecny Laughton Tarasenko .. all just mentioned.
Laughton is my target. I think he'd be an outstanding fit as a middle sixer.
Diddn’t the Flyers reject a first and second from the Blues for Laughton? (I think speculation was there was a significant cap dump attached)
I don’t want to pay more for Laughton than Detroit paid for DeBrincat.

Agree,
Hamonic could be the mentor again, but on a third pairing this year for Kleven. Sandy said how much help it was, and how they’ve become good friends now.

We’re not getting him if it’s a one-year deal. Offering him multiple years at a lower cap hit is the only way we could out-bid the other teams.

If he wants to wait a year and try to cash in, Ottawa could be the best spot given the abundance of offensive talent in the top-6 and the opportunity he‘d recieve as a result. He could put up big numbers here than cash in next summer.

A 1 year deal could be a good thing for both parties.
