What similar players were there last year that signed as a 21-23 year old RFA, 10.2c or not? Kakko, Hayton and Tippett? 2.1, 1.7 and 1.5.

Pinto as said is a 10.2c, he’s also done more than every one of those guys, who put up 7g 18p in an injury plagued yet for high pedigree Kakko, 10g 24p in 60 for Hayton, and 10g 21p in 63 games for Tippett. Pinto with 20g 35 points while playing in a full 83 game season.
It doesn’t matter, he can play in Europe, sit out or sign. I’m not saying squeeze him for no reason, but if we add and there is no cap space to go beyond 1 x 1.25 then you offer it with another contract offer he can sign in January.

1 year contract 1.25
3 year contract 2.5, 3.5, 4.5

Essentially 4 years 11.75.

Pinto shouldn't get a cent above 1.5M.

35 points playing beside DeBrincat and Batherson, two 60+ point guys, isn't impressive at all.

I was a fan of his in college and still think he can develop into a great 3rd line center, but he seriously dragged those two down offensively. As good as his shot is, his playmaking and puckhandling just wasn't on the same level and it hurt the line's ability to extend plays and produce offense.
Pinto had more 5v5 goals than Batherson or Debrincat. Those wingers were awful and blaming the rookie for dragging down a 9M winger is proof that winger isn’t worth his money.

What about assists. Pinto's lack of puckhandling and playmaking was a big reason why those guys had trouble scoring goals.

Toews, Sundqvist, Suter, Gurianov, Comtois, Statsny, Motte, Boqvist,

The sens dont need a world beater here. Free assets is the way to go right now on a one year prove it deal.

Crouse would be unreal but id imagine the cost would be very very high to aquire him he is on a great contract and is a very unique player.
What about Sunquist RW, he's big & cheap & maybe could put up a few pts with Tkachuk & Stutzle leaving Giroux to drive line two? That would also leave the Sens some assets to make a play for Laughton or Crouse would it not? The team gets bigger, tougher & harder to play against, they also add some scoring & improve their bottom six.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Sunqvist
Laughton - Norris - Giroux
Kubalik - Pinto - Batherson
Smejkal - Kastelic - MacEwen/Kelly/Soko???

Both DBC and Batherson were bad last year, both would readily recognize and admit that.

They’re both better than they showed last year, and neither was helpful to Pinto, just like Pinto wasn’t helpful to either of those guys

I mean, Pinto had 1 less goal at even strength than 40 goal scorer DBC and 7 more ES goals than Batherson. Lots of blame to go around on that line, the rookie that was thrust into that role that kept up scoring wise isn’t that high on the list. If he’s on PP1 like both DBC and Batherson he’s got a 50+ point season in front of him

I don't think anyone is saying Pinto is a bad player. The question is mainly about how much leverage he has in his contract negotiations, which is not a ton.

It was not a good line at 5-on-5. Quite bad. Yet our coach just kept throwing them out there. Made basically zero adjustments.

Can't wait to see how it goes this year!!
Not sure what adjustments you wanted DJ to make with the state of our reduced roster.

It seems increasingly unlikely that we can afford (in terms of cap space) Tarasenko so the discussion might be moot.

I like Sundqvist alot because he can play center too, very useful player. Plays in all situations, dont think you want him in the top 6 though. If someone goes down Grieg, Pinto would be better to move up.

Also, not sure why so many people are keen on trading Brannstrom with Chabot and Chychrun’s inability to stay healthy.

There’s a decent chance neither one of them plays 65 games next year. Our lack of depth killed us last year when our top guys got injured.
Chychrun moves over to the left side & JBD jumps into the right side to replace Chychrun. JBD will be on the team, I doubt they place him on wiavers.

I'd rather not move on Tarasenko. I think Kubalik will be fine in a 2nd line role. I'd rather get Pinto signed and pick up a 2.5-3 AAV hard nosed player.
