On every instance? On every subject wrt hockey?

NBA panel is great for this. They're all respected legends but usually disagree, so how can I know who is right based on who has the most clout?

No not on every single topic ever. But when it comes to the dynamics and benefits of having a player like Macewen on a team, I’d certainly listen to Methot.

He has a reasonable take. Guys who play that role are still useful, especially at a league minimum salary.

Meanwhile, Twitter nerds are melting down because 1 guy posted a WAR chart so now they know everything about this player and the impact he’ll have and what a waste of 800k and a roster spot.

That's fair. My question was more about the general idea of that than this specifically. These guys are wrong all the time, and get attention often from having hot controversial takes, so I have a hard time sometimes with, well he played so he's right.

Stephen A. Smith is one of the highest paid "analysts", but he just jumps from hot take to hot take and he'd have no "business" if he were just reasonable cuz then nobody would care.

You know MacEwan and Boko are interchangeable parts a that one can sit out games or be down in Belleville.
For sure but even one being in the line up full-time is pretty bad if the goal was to improve secondary scoring!

Still waiting on the improvements? why couldn’t Boko do Zachs job for example call him up vs. Toronto or Boston now Zach steals another roster spot that could’ve went towards a more productive player ..

And who should be when you consider they have to be at the league minimum salary? People complained about Watson and he was at $1.5 million.

We just signed Imama on a contract that works for this purpose. He's just as terrible at actual hockey but at least he seems to punch faces better.

No clue why we feel like we need two of these guys.

If Zach was the best you can do, all prospects and just call up Boko if you felt he was needed vs. Reaves etc

Zach gives you nothing offensively and at least the kids have a shot at contributing.

I'm hoping the Imama stuff was just posturing and pumping him up. Maybe brought up for a few games sort of thing, but we don't need two face punchers on the team full time. It will render our 4th line an even bigger black hole offensively than it was last year.

If I were a coach, this is exactly what I would preach: make their goon a non-factor to the point he gets mad and takes a dumbass penalty. Then score on the PP and tell their coach "thanks."
How has that worked out for the leafs,
Now Sens have Xhekaj and Reaves to deal with

I only speak for myself, but personally, I would prefer it if they signed good players to play on the team.

The LA Kings, a team that had 104 pts last year, traded assets for Zac Macewen last year. But he doesn’t belong in the NHL on a 4th line at less than 800k? We’re you hoping for a Rudy Balcers comeback?

You bring Imama up once in a while to fight and otherwise you have no face punchers on the 4th line. You need strong, defensively minded players that can skate hard and fast. Some added offense is awesome too.

Literally has nothing to do with the Leafs' problems.

I find hockey so outdated that you rarely see adjustments to the set systems coaches use and the way they build teams. If I am a coach and see they have a slow skating Dman out there, I am throwing away my system and trying to get out my fastest skaters and telling them to just exploit that side every time they break out that side and push against him.
Don’t t get last change on the road. So that works 1/2 the time.

I am actually still holding out hope that Peter Regin finally puts it all together.

The signing is whatever; I just don't understand 3 years or why we need a 4th line plug, really.

Even if I can't get my "fastest" skaters out, I would still have my entire team exploit that side of the ice and not stick to our traditional system. I would obviously look for other exploits and adjustments that was just an example.

Yeah seeing people say these signing are going to prevent Brady from “having” to fight is never not going to be funny. Like he is forced to do it and doesn’t enjoy backing up his teammates. Its part of his game to play on the edge and it always will be.

If we wanted to have a cutesy ballerina as captain that doesn’t get his hands dirty, we probably shouldn’t have drafted the guy who was quite literally known for this coming out.

Going back to MacEwen, put me in the camp saying there is zero reason to give waiver fodder more than one year deals, same with Del Zotto a few years ago but whatever. Just put him in the minors and forget about him if anything. If meathead DJ plays him or Imama regularly then we obviously have a problem

Albeit a poor one.
