Cause attractive teams can afford to overpay, they will replace the assets with UFAs.
Nor should we be surprised Dubois got more, it was always going to be that way. Big physical center compared to a very small winger that hasn't yet produced away from his former future hall of fame linemate, as he wants a massive 8 year deal.

That and until proven otherwise, people still see him as a product of Kane.

I wouldn't say close to 70 points is not producing. That should still fetch a good return.
66 in 82 is nothing to shake a stick at, but it's a pretty significant drop off. Also had a tough year in 2019-20, so that's now 2 out of the last 4 seasons his production has been fairly below ppg with goal counts of 18 and 27.

By all accounts, it sounds like he wants his new contract to reflect what he's done other years as a 40 goal, ppg guy, which may be the bigger issue for teams acquiring him. You don't want to give him 8.5 mil for 8 years and find out he's a ~25 goal scorer decently below a ppg.

If DBC was able to put up 66 points playing with Batherson and Pinto, i'm pretty sure he could have added at the very least 10 or so extra points with Stutzle if not more. especially since Stutzle creates space and DBC finds space.

but now everyone thinks DBC sucks and we will most likely get pennies compared to what we paid for him. buy high sell low, the Pierre Dorion way.

should he follow up this seasons -31 (plus/minus) with another.

His total will be around 530 games played and -70. That would put him amongst the 50 or worse active NHLrs.

Batherson and Chabot are already on that list of infamy..

I wonder how much is scaring GMs off?

Colton getting traded to Colorado has nothing to do with that.
You're right but TB can also overpay in a trade and they don't have to care too much about their picks/prospects cause they can sign UFAs.

So what the heck if Colorado got want they wanted and that their GM look great in a trade

That graphic is from an 8 year old article...

As an aside, the article did reference a survey of agents,

Agents mentioned “winning,” “weather,” a “vibrant nightlife,” a “proud organization,” stable “ownership,” the ability to “spend” on building a winning team and, in particular, the “media scrutiny” that comes with playing in intense, hockey mad Canadian markets.

Astoundingly, not one agent told ESPN that taxes were a motivating factor in deciding where they want to play!
Stable ownership, maybe ability to spend might have increase, media scrutiny here is pretty low relative to other Canadian cities so that's a positive, and hopefully winning is on the way to being resolved.
