Re Cat and Kane:
Kane also had a big drop off without Cat.
After a 92 point season in 78 games, Kane had 57 points in 73 games.

I've posted this a least twice before, but, apparently, some people don't like facts.
they do, they just forget them as needed

You do realize Kane was playing with a bad hip all season?

It was so bad he was even debating whether he should just stay in Chicago for the rest of the year instead of getting traded to a playoff team.

Kanes drop off is a little more justifiable he was playing with no other good players while being in his mid 30s while putting off a major hip surgery the whole year

34 year old on the downswing with a yearlong debilitating injury and traded to a new team midseason not the player he once was? Shocking.

How does 14P in 21GP and 4P in 11 playoff games get you 8 x 8.8 with that team? Seems kinda crazy, no?
Cause good GMs look at the rising cap and don’t cherry pick one year of decent stats as a baseline

And DBC got to play with Pinto a young 3rd liner

He's a very good player. They must be banking on him producing like he did in San Jose. Still seems a bit high for my liking.

Also, there is only so much puck to go around in NJ. It's a pretty stacked top 6 but some of these guys will be playing in roles not befitting their salary.

Primarily yes Pinto was his C. He also got shuffled a bit and had Stutzle at times. He got to play on a power play with Stutzle and Brady two PPG+ players and Giroux who was pretty much ppg. Batherson and Pinto would be two of Chicago’s best options. The quality in team mates is not even close

Closest DBC comparable you will find.

he had 10M QO as opposed to 9M for cat.

Meier coming off a 40goals 26 assists campaign. for 66pts in 78 games.
Debrincat 27 goals 39 assists for 66 in 82 games but had 40 the year prior.

Something to take into consideration is Meier is a physical player who contributes more than scoring.

Hard not to be envious of these US teams trading big assets for a player and he rewards them by signing a multi-year extension

Stick to draft & develop I guess
Its the only thing thats ever worked for small market teams and this franchise in particular. But hey why look at what has historically worked.

If DBC was able to put up 66 points playing with Batherson and Pinto, i'm pretty sure he could have added at the very least 10 or so extra points with Stutzle if not more. especially since Stutzle creates space and DBC finds space.

but now everyone thinks DBC sucks and we will most likely get pennies compared to what we paid for him. buy high sell low, the Pierre Dorion way.
The argument that Batherson and Pinto are bad linemates on top of him getting to play first pp and getting easier matchups because he isnt on the first line is tired and lazy. He had terrific opportunity to play with good players in easy matchup scenarios. Meier was on San Jose for most of the season. He had similar linemates and situational play.

Debrincat missed an insane amount of open looks this past season. Didnt have good puck luck but he didnt make it for himself either. I am sure he scores more but he wasnt capable of driving that line. Three similar players that didnt make alot of sense to play together.

Stable ownership, maybe ability to spend might have increase, media scrutiny here is pretty low relative to other Canadian cities so that's a positive, and hopefully winning is on the way to being resolved.
I think the current team makeup with BT , TS and CG plus a new respected "hockey-wise" owner has Ottawa as a far better destination than it has been in the last 15 years.

So, looking at DeBrincat in the three years with and without Kane prior to the trade,

His goals/60 drop a bit, and his secondary assists plummeted.

Looking at his linemates, that makes sense, but what's interesting is Debrincat's personal underlying numbers do well away from Kane,

His ixgf/60, iSCF/60 and ihdcf/60 all go up away from Kane, as does his on ice CF (marginally), xGF%, SCF% and HDCF%.

Usage, opposition, deployment all will factor in, can't say I watch Chicago close enough to make any conclusions but it is interesting

Meier played a ton with the reigning Norris winner who had more pts than Batherson and Pinto combined, a pretty good center in Hertl, I think it's pretty lazy to suggest because he played on SJ he had similar linemates particularly when you consider Bathersons health.

Do you think Meier played on a better team with more help around him than Debrincat?

So what's the excitement level going into the draft and more specifically on the prospect of Dorion making a big trade and the resulting moves to fill in the roster? Out of 10 what you got?

Mine has dropped in the past couple days so.. I'm probably a 4 just under 50/50

Reilly Smith to the Pens for a 3rd… would have been a nice fit in the top six to help replace DeBrincat’s production.
2 years left at 5m would have been a good addition to the 2 or 3 l depending

There have been a few nice cheap deals to be had for quality players .. Not much draft capital and No $ until DeBrincat is dealt. Opportunity Cost is real.

Given no trade yet, my interest is a "2".

I will play board games tonight with my local gaming group and watch the recording later.
