Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals - 2025/26 Part II

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
More so that Spence doesn’t carry much value than Schieder carries a lot

This is more of an aside, but I wonder if guys like Spence will start to have more league-wide value as more teams become analytically-influenced. And I wonder when the league will hit that tipping point, if it ever does. Every year, more teams start to lean this way.

Conventional wisdom says he has no value because of his physical profile, but the underlying numbers suggest he’s actually good. If enough teams start to value the numbers over the physical profile, his value - or at least the value of future guys like him - should increase.

I agree, but in a different way. When first tier guys are getting 15m+ going forward with the cap, all the trade protection, will only go to a handful of teams and the contract isn't worth the paper it's written on....second and third tier are going to be more sought after.

Because… big!

Even though Carolina has two 5’11 defencemen play key roles in their Cup run.

GM’s are stubborn.

Ghostibehere is a top-end PP QB who put up 50 points in 55 games last year. Spence is not close to as good offensively, and never will be. On this team, there's little path to him getting consistent PP time.

Sean Walker is certainly the better comparison.

Before 24/25, he signed a 5 year contract with a 3.615 AAV, which was ~4.1% of the cap at the time.

The equivalent AAV based on next year's cap would be $4.25M.

But it sounds like Spence wants more than 5M per year.

Bruce is saying it’s not us:

The Ottawa Citizen reported in May that the Senators had interest in forward Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks. Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman told viewers on Tuesday that the Senators were “trying hard” to get McTavish, but the talk Thursday night is that he won’t be coming to Ottawa.

A report by league insider Frank Seravalli indicated the New York Rangers had emerged as one of the frontrunners for McTavish. The indications are that there was another team pushing to get to the finish line, but we don’t believe it’s the Senators.

Eh. Is what it is. It’s not much worse than MacTavish and Eklund
Disagree with that
The reason you trade for mctavish is for him to reach his potential like cozens. You aren’t trading for mctavish for his current play

If all we change in the forward group is taking out Tkachuk and adding debrusk and Eklund that would be so disappointing
That’s the reality of NMC/NTC’s and being Ottawa. Nichushkin would have been great.

I really do wonder if we try to do something about Karlsson if we can’t get more offensive help.

His potential isn’t that high in my opinion but yeah obviously he has more upside.

Really feels like slim pickings right now, doesn't it? I can't get excited for either DeBrusk or McTavish.

How realistic are targets like Jared McCann or Lafreniere?

DeBrincat's kind of exactly what we need right now. Shame.

I've noticed Steady Steve seems to target players who were associated with Edmonton

If you're willing to offer sheet Dallas for Robertson// pay 12million/yr, would you offer sheet Draisaital to play with Timmy?

7 years from now?
