Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals - 2025/26 Part II

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
This team is shit and Staios thinks second liners will fix it?

Weird all the stats and underlying numbers suggest that with a full season of good goaltending we are easily a top 10 team, especially if we add another 25-30 goal scorer.

but sure we should wish 100pt 40g scorer onto our team. Come on everyone wish super hard!!!

Or I guess throw in the towel lol

Right, no first liners on the Canes. :eyeroll:

You don't consider Batherson a first liner, so why would Svechnikov or Ehlers be 1st liners? Batherson outscored them both.

Carolina had 1 player who scored at a point per game pace last year. Aho, and he just barely did it. Stutzle and Batherson scored more goals than any single player on the Hurricanes last year.

The Canes won the cup not because they have a ton of 1st line talents. But because they're 3rd line was better than a lot of teams 2nd line. And their defense was awesome.

Stutzle, Batherson, Pinto, Cozens, Eklund and Giroux
361 points in 473 games last year - 63 points/82 games per player average

Aho, Svechnikov, Ehlers, Jarvis, Blake and Hall
388 points in 472 games last year - 67 points/82 games per player average

Eh. It's what we've done for a while now.

Brady was a poor man's first liner production wise most years. And not a good finisher at all.

We are going to have to win with depth. There are no stars coming to save us.

I tend to agree with you that it won't work out but what choice do we have?

I'm not saying we can do better either, I'm just letting people know we're not about to win any Cups with this roster, even if we add Debrusk.

We were never gonna win a cup with this core even if Brady decided to retire a Senator.

Stu isn't a top end 1C. We don't have any superstar players and we have nothing in the prospect pipeline.

No top end draft picks on the way.

All we can do is try to enjoy it.

I’d pay a lot, he’s not only the toughest player in the league but he can actually play. Some will think I’m wild for saying this but I’d trade a 1st for him.

Legit I would give up the 25th for him. Great cap hit for him too and signed long term.

I was gone for almost a whole hour and there's been NOTHING.

Batherson is a poor man's first liner, and he disappears when it matters most.

I do consider all of Aho, Ehlers and Svechnikov first liners, but regardless, the Canes also have frikkin' Jarvis, Stankoven, Blake and Hall who all played elite hockey in the playoffs and I don't see that kind of depth here.

They traded for Spence last year. I imagine they're listening on him because they don't want to give him his ask of 5 years at 5M+, not because they don't like the player.
I’ll wait to see how it plays out, but you’re going to have to pay good players in a league with a rapidly rising cap. Yeah I’ve been pressed about this topic with Spence for several days, but he’s legitimately been playing like that top 4 RD we’ve been clamouring for and is still very young. He didn’t miss a beat when assigned tougher minutes too.

I just think giving up on him is going to make us look incredibly foolish. If we move him for McTavish, Anaheim is objectively getting the better player as of 2026.

Bruce mentioned that we’re trying to get bigger on defence. I just watched the ECF between two teams who have d-men under 6 feet playing well.

I think had Tkachuk actually cared about playing in Ottawa, added a real scoring winger to the top-6, and a top-4 RD, we could have made waves.

We're sitting here right now and there are no real scoring wingers available.

Also a team that only needs 2 pieces to win a cup doesn't get obliterated in Rd 1 despite having historically good goaltending.

I thought both Hutson and Carrier had a lot of trouble dealing with Car's forcheck, more so than other teams top 4.

There's value in having the size to deal with guys crashing into you, but frankly Spence handled himself fine, so I see no rush to move on from him. If we do add a D with size, that's fine, but we should be keeping Spence.
