Yeah, that’s the main reason I don’t see EK traded here…we’re not getting out of Carter’s ironclad deal, and they probably have to attach good assets to move Petry or Granlund…just even moving one of these guys isn’t enough to get EK at $8M…
Rutta, Granlund pretty much gets you there cap wise with retention. And no issues with Ntc.

On the SDP today that said that if EK doesn't work out, Dubi might go after Dumba and still move Petry. I'd be fine with that.
I like Dumba but at this point I'd be upset if it wasn't EK.

Wouldn't mind a Dumba back there though. Think he's a guy that could get a nice resurgence. Plays bigger than what he is and tough to play against. Brings it so I like his play style.

I don’t think Tarasenko is going to Carolina after what happened involving the firing of his agent, but we’ll see…I think the only way EK comes here is if he tells SJ that the Pens are the only team he’ll join lol

I don’t think I’ll be able to watch a Sullivan coached team with a whole lot of talentless scrubs again next season…I still want to see Sid and Geno play with talent
This is going to be like the Jerome Iglina signing with everyone thinking he's going to Boston and last min we turn around and get both Tank and EK

No one wants Granlund at $5M unless we add an asset…it’s either a buy out or retention and neither solves the Cap issue with EK…also we’re not paying Petry $6.25M to play in the bottom pair, which will be getting like 10 min after EK and Letang get 25 min each…he’s got to go…too many moving parts for us

Petry to some team, who gives a f***, wherever he'll go. Granlund, lotto protected 1st in 2024, Pickering/Smith/POJ, 3rd in 2024 for Karlsson at $8.5 million.

If Karlsson happens, that's probably along the lines of what it'll be. I'm skeptical until a deal is official, so I don't expect it, but I don't think the Pens will have to pay a colossal price for a guy who wants out of SJ, and Pittsburgh (for some weird f***ing reason) is one of his preferred destinations.

Maybe they just buy Granlund out with the second window thanks to DOC's arbitration. I guess DOC really might be useful after all.

Well, of course we have to accompany it with a pick or two and maybe poj. I know asset wise we'd have to add. I'm talking about the money and making it work. Granlund would have to go.

I don’t think it’s that easy to move Petry…major issue if you want to make EK happen…

Honestly I'd even bump up the 3rd to a 2025 1st based on results. As in if the Penguins make a deep run, they'll give up a 2025 1st as well.

If they can get Karlsson for the equivalent of Ty Smith and 2 1sts, with one of them being dependent on going deep in the playoffs, I'm super happy with that.

I figured this was obvious after like a month of Dubas calling teams to see if anybody wanted him. Yes, that does seem to be the hold up.

And for the hypothetical bluelines out there with Letang, Karlsson and Petry on 'em--god bless ya for dreaming with a child-like wonder. I don't think there's any way to make it work with Petry still on the team, nor do I want to see the team spending $6.25 million on a bottom pairing RD when the team's gonna be giving the Letang and Karlsson pairings like 50 minutes a night.

I don't know if it's better to part with Pickering or the 2025 1st. Karlsson or not, this thing's gonna bottom out sooner than later.

We'll see what happens. I still don't think the Pens will be able to make the cap work unless they're planning on buying out Granlund with the second window, they're confident they can find a place for Petry (GL!) and they have some kind of heads up about Carter being dealt or going to LTIRetirement.

You can fit Petts, Graves, Petry, EK65 and Letang in if you move Granlund, Rutta, and Desmith out. If Carter gets LITR it helps doubt that happens:

Andreas johnsson signing is interesting. He was on a great trajectory until he injured his knee. Skilled guy that works hard.
Agreed, only move that made say "Huh, this kinda came outta of left field." was the Eller signing, didn't really have him on my radar at all.

I mean Vinnie Hinostraza is only 29

Andreas Johnsson is only 28

Dubas getting the team younger!!!
I honestly believe you could win the Cup with exclusively 30+ y/o's on the roster, especially now with where sports science is at.
But they have to be carefully chosen, with all the roles accounted for and play commensurate to their cap hit. Can't tie yourself up to ridiculous long term deals at fat AAV's for short term returns. You get those sneaky upside vets at near league minimum, and you get equivalent output to many ELC's.

I thought Sid was magnificent 2-way in 2018-19 at 31. That's the hardest I can remember him busting his ass for a season. That was not a great team around him at all. What a waste! :(
Malkin in 2019-20 after that summer training when he got totally ripped...the best 5v5 producer in the league at 32.
Letang was brilliant the previous 2 seasons at 33-35.

It just has to line up. Look at what we just got from Zucker at 30.
Acquisitions like Smith at ages 32 and 33 will surely be better than many good 25 year olds.

I'm being 37% facetious regarding age

We just have so many reclamations going on who are not super young. Which is okay as long as they keep them on super cheap and short contracts.

One positive with the Vinnie and Johnsson signings is that it should provide some competition for spots in training camp, can't hurt.

Can't wait for all the incessant whining. But but you're stifling Nylander and Puustinen. 🤣
Actually ima be pretty pissed myself if Puustinen doesn't get a shot hahahaha.

Brassard, Staal's line, Cullen's play, HBK. A ton of weirdly, out of the ordinary things happened that really uber f***ed with Penguins fans' view of how bottom-6s "need" to be built or how good the players have to be.
Not really. It's pretty obvious to me that a SCF caliber team needs to have some kind of game breaker on their bottom 6. Expecting HBK every year isn't reasonable but neither is understanding that depth wins championships and that's what depth looks like on a bottom 6.
