Exactly. Enact some variation of Bird Rights that rewards good drafting or make the contracts non guaranteed against the cap. Something has to give.If you’re going to have a flat hard cap you cannot have guaranteed contracts. Just one doesn’t go with the other
This might make some sense had Vegas previously shown the slightest bit of loyalty in even a single instance toward any of their players. They didn't even tell Fleury he was traded, he found out via Twitter, so I doubt they gave Reaves any special courtesy.Vegas wanted to do right by Reaves who was so instrumental in helping to build that franchise not only on the ice, but also off the ice in the community. For a guy in the role that he is in, to uproot his entire life for 1 season as a mercenary may not have been overly attractive so when Vegas told him he was being shopped, they may have been trying to find a home for him where he would be more than a 1 year piece.
Basically, it's distinctly possible that Reaves specifically asked to be moved somewhere that would give him, at the very least, a 1 year extension.
This goes back to one of my original thoughts though. Why extend him for 1 season @ $1.75m. Why not give him a 2 year deal worth $1.3m per season. If his play falls off a cliff then you demote and bury his contract. It drops the cap hit and he actually gets more $$. It's a win win
Maybe, but most of that crew isn't running the Rangers anymore.I think we were high on Jake Neghibors in his draft year?
Maybe a 1 for 1 swap?
They have 4 young defenseman combating for the final 2 spots.
Robertson and Jones for 3LD - Schneids and Lundkvist for RHD
may the best man win
Drury checking in on what their plans are with RoR?I heard the last 32T podcast of this season. Elliotte Friedman was running through a list of teams and giving thoughts on each team. He heard the Rangers talked to Vancouver. He also heard the Rangers were talking to the Blues. Apparently, he asked the Rangers at the draft and they said nothing was going on. He said the Rangers and Blues have been talking for a while.
The Blues don't have many young D in the system.
Maybe, but most of that crew isn't running the Rangers anymore.
Not yet.Have we traded for Pat Kane yet?
Dallas.
The Stars tried to acquire Burns from San Jose. He has a 3 team trade list and the Stars were on his list. Dallas and San Jose couldn't complete the deal. The Hurricanes didn't give up much for Burns. No top prospects and no top draft pick. San Jose retained 33% of the Burns contract. Carolina wasn't on the 3 team list. Burns agreed to the trade to Carolina. Maybe Dallas wanted San Jose to retain more than 33%.
The Stars are looking to replace Klingberg. They spoke to Klingberg again on Wednesday. Nothing.
Montreal is looking trade Petry but they will not retain any salary or give up assets to remove the $6.25M cap hit. The Stars can not afford that contract. Montreal is not looking to take back money. Petry does not work for them.
Dallas signed Marchment. 4 years/$18M.
Dallas still has to sign Robertson and Oettinger. They have $11M-$12M of cap space. That money will go towards Robertson and Oettinger.
The Stars signed Colin Miller to a 2 year deal. $1.85M. Depth player.
The Stars don't have a young D to replace Klingberg and they don't have the money for a replacement.
Lundkvist to Dallas for Bourque.
I read the Blues want to re-sign ROR. Drury checked on every center in the league.Drury checking in on what their plans are with RoR?
Mavrik Bourque.Wyatt Johnston.
Blues are laughing at thatI think we were high on Jake Neghibors in his draft year?
Maybe a 1 for 1 swap?
Wyatt Johnson is who is (theoretically) making Bourque “available” and quite frankly the Rangers would be lucky to get Bourque.Wyatt Johnston.
Gonna get jacked what are you doing? We are now into the dog days of summer for our board being capped out and all. 2 months.
The bigger joke is that 14 of the GMs are former NHL players, many of the remaining 18 were career AHLers/minor league players, and we expect these people to be capable of running multi million dollar businesses.
For several months, it has been an open secret in Winnipeg: Pierre-Luc Duboiswould like to play in Montreal.
Multiple sources confirmed to The Athletic that wearing the Canadiens’ bleu, blanc et rouge is a dream that Dubois is not shy to talk about in private company.
Now Dubois’ agent, Pat Brisson, is making those desires as public as possible. Brisson has stirred the Dubois-to-Montreal pot in multiple media appearances this week in a clear attempt to catalyze trade talks between the Jets and Canadiens.
“Montreal is a city he would probably … I can talk about it because he doesn’t have a contract at the moment — he’s a restricted free agent,” Brisson told TVA Sports in French on Wednesday. “Montreal is a place, a city he’d like to play in. That’s all I can say about that.”
A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Athletic that Dubois attended the NHL Draft in Montreal because he believed a trade would be completed on the draft floor. As first reported by Radio-Canada’s Martin Leclerc, Montreal offered three players to the Jets in hopes of securing Dubois’ rights. You’ll recall that Montreal selected Slovak right winger Juraj Slafkovskywith the No. 1 pick and then acquired Kirby Dach from Chicago.
But Dach is not Montreal’s endgame. The Canadiens have continued their pursuit of Dubois since the draft.
It is believed that Winnipeg is holding up the deal in an effort to secure a player Montreal has no interest in moving.
This could be why Brisson is trying to increase the pressure.
For Dubois, it’s as simple as wanting to play in Montreal.
The Blues aren't trading Tarasenko
I listened to Chris Johnston's podcast. He said the salary cap is expected to increase in a couple of years. There is an expectation that the cap will increase.

I think their fans see that Colorado got weaker so far by losing Burakovsky, Kemper, and possibly Kadri. That series was pretty close when Binnington was out there.Andy’s been posting a lot on that recently, especially after the pushback from fans disappointed that Perron wasn’t retained.
They’ve either mended the fence or they’re pumping up the tires.
This is some crazy stuff
