I really hope they do leave the D alone now, Jones will be a RFA by next year, it's probably time to see what he can do at least a little bit. I am pretty confident he'll eventually beat out Hajek, and that may also allow for Schneider to not feel he needs to make the zone exits.

This is the thing that drives me nuts about charts. Is Hunt as good a skater as Motte? Can he PK like Motte? Is he a short handed threat like Motte?

No. No. And No.

That being said, unless Reaves or someone else gets shipped out there’s little danger that we need to worry about Motte being a NYR.

Signing motte now would be a big mistake. Like the player but we got him for a 4th at the deadline, we can find another Motte.

The only thing left to do is bridge Kakko and be opportunistic if a trade for a guy who can put us over the top materializes over the summer. We still have a ton of assets.

That being said, Kane is coming at the deadline, prepare yourselves accordingly

It's like you forget just how much reputation actually matters in this league. You get a reputation at age 24 and it stays with you until your 40. No shit players that hadn't normally PK'ed aren't usually candidates for it.

you could have made the same argument for Kreider and he adapted to it pretty well. Obviously Hunt isn't Kreider but the point being adjusting to and becoming a good PKer isn't some monumentally difficult skill.

I don't think it has, but if they were going to add him this summer was the time to do it.

Maybe they have better chips than the teams in it next March and still get it done, I just don't think its a slam dunk where as if they wanted him now, it probably was.

If they give kakko a 2.5m x2 years contract, then we have room for kane at the deadline if Chi retains at 50%.
But Im actually hoping we give kakko a 3 year 3m contract. Its an overpay but kakko can easily break out especially if he's in the top 6 and healthy all year. That saves us from negotiating again right as the cap jumps.
Also makes him a more valuable piece to move if we need to.

Kane has a full nmc, competition only exists if he wants it to. If he says "i'll only waive for the rangers", then theres no competition.
If he says anywhere in the US thats in a top playoff spot, then yeah its a bidding war.

Meh. I don’t see Hunt as an effective player on the PK. I thought Kreider was a good candidate for that for years.

Don’t think Kakko signs for 3 but they will definitely leave space to add Kane
