5 years ago. We are banking on something a player did half a decade ago?

I hope I'm wrong, I really do. 7 years for this player is a lot. That's declaring he's the one we are banking on to win us Cups as a 2C. Our best opportunity to win at least one Cup is during the first half of his contract. He better be the guy.
Try to stop harping on the 7 years...that was only given to him to get him to sign. He's moveable after 3 years & when the cap goes up, the contract will be easy to shed. This is a move to improve us now while our hands are tied with the cap & gives us a better chance to win in the short term.

This is just full blown recency bias. He played bad these past playoffs and thats all you can remember.

Ryan Lindgren wasn’t the only one playing with an injury, he was just the only one who let everyone know he was injured. Not that he doesn’t battle. But he surely lets everybody know that he is hurt.
He played poorly every time the games got tight and mattered. This isn’t recency bias. He’s a passenger. Those players exist. It’s hard to win playoff games with guys like that playing prominent roles.

I genuinely think that you may be underrating Trochecks offensive ability. He's not a scrub, he has true offensive talent.

Is everyone going to flip when Chytil is packaged next for a half-retained JT Miller, and Trocheck is actually the 3C for next year?

Kreid Zib Laf
Bread Miller Krav
Goodrow Trocheck Kakko
Blais Rydahl Reaves

Yes, I would hate that. One year rental for a young player who's on the verge of potentially being a 2C himself would be a massive mistake.

Nice little nugget from @Kocur26

If you are concerned about the length of the contract, if you are fretting over what Trocheck will look like at age 35 in 2028-29, you really ought to get a different hobby. This isn’t about six years from now. This is about winning the Stanley Cup this year or next year or the year after — while Igor Shesterkin is under contract and veterans such as Panarin, Zibanejad and Chris Kreider are still upper-echelon productive members of society.

Man I agree it’s a tough one to take. I’m not overly fond of Miller, and I like Chytil, but if Drury wants to shove all in that might be how he’d do it. Then use more ammo for Kane at the deadline.

I guess the real questions are, can the Rangers even afford Chytil anymore if he breaks out in any meaningful way next year? If he doesn’t break out, he’s a goner anyway no?

I'm so happy with how the center situation has played out. Like last year, I'm a huge proponent of filling in some spots but letting the kids have a shot at other spots. Lets see what Chytil does, it wouldn't be crazy if a guy was 23 in this league and finally hit a huge stride, can't see why we'd be giving up on him now. Trochek is the perfect guy to insulate that bet on Chytil.

Seems to me our offense is sitting at

CK-Zbad-Laffy
Bread-Troch-Kakko
Blais-Chytil-Krav
Goodrow-Rydhal-Reaves

Spare forward could be a camp battle for all I care, or move Goodrow to Center for 9 games and play Otthman. Cuylle could very well force his way onto the team, but if he marinates for a little this year I wouldn't be mad.

Seems like we're done for now....

Unless Reaves retires, I don't see how we afford Motte.

It's puzzling to me how people are still talking about J.T. Miller at this point, unless it's just throwing out hypotheticals for the sake of "what if" scenarios that are just fun to humor/torture one another with.

Realistically, the fate of any "J.T. Miller to NY" fate was determined yesterday with the Trochek signing. The idea of Miller to NY was already on life support, as it seems Drury was already losing interest and never even made a serious inquiry within the past few weeks. He already moved on.

Now, if Chytil or other assets are packaged for a different rental, that's a different story. I don't think we're out of the woods yet when it comes to Patrick Kane. If the Rangers are playing amongst the top of the league come TDL and it looks like the Rangers are healthy enough to make a deep playoff run, then Drury may make a move for a winger rental like Kane. Making a move for Miller is so "low value" at this point. Not to mention, the Canucks aren't even sold on Chytil and they seem to only want assets from us that are more of the "untouchable" sort. Drury will convince the Canucks to accept pieces they don't want, just so he can devalue his acquisition of Trochek and roll the dice on a J.T. Miller? It just seems all so farfetched at this point. Horrible for everyone involved.

I was fine with elevating Chytil to 2C, but think of the advantage this team now has if they are able to roll the Kid line out there against other team’s third lines all year. People are worried that the playoff performance was a flash in the pan. It might have been, but it’s unlikely. What’s more likely is that the kids will be even better this season.

And remember, they looked the way they did against two of the best defensive teams in the league deep in the playoffs. Imagine what the kid line can do against the Devils in December.

You just can't rely on Chytil. He hasn't put it together over a full season. He always gets hurt then slumps.

We all want him to be the energetic pace pusher that he can be. We can't go in relying solely on him.

My lineup. Kravtsov sliding into the Buch spot is a no brainer. Blais is a more talented Hunt for the Panarin line. Kids dominate against other team’s third lines. Even strength ice time evenly distributed amongst the top nine with the fourth line getting minimal minutes.

Robertson, Jones, Schneider rotate on the third defense pairing. Likely trade for a vet depth defenseman at the deadline.

No, because we all know Trocheck would take the 2c spot, Goodrow would take the 3c spot, and Krav would get bumped for Laf/Miller...

I really wonder what some people have been watching. The other Ryan on the team? Sure. Strome? Laid it on the line? Seriously?
All season long I was hoping Drury would move him at the trade deadline, so I wouldn't have to watch him take offensive zone penalties, shank shots, and miss open nets. I resigned myself to see him finish out the season hoping for the best in the playoffs.

injured, i get it. same mistakes and egregious errors that cost this team severely.

So happy I don't have to see this bum in NYR uniform again.

Strome is an average poor mans 2C. more like a decent 3C... but one that brings zero physicality and makes egregious errors. He skates fairly well and is a good passer/play maker...

Thats it!
