He making century eggs.In 2027 Team President and GM Mike Sullivan is going to f***ing cook with those picks mate.
I'm not super confident that Dubas has it figured out. But he spent a lot of effort to contend last year and we still sucked, so the way I see it is at least he's accumulating assets now to rebuild with. If we suck again, it's no big loss is it? We all expect to suck anyways. At least we have our pick now.Obviously you don't judge a cake before it's actually finished baking but I'm sorry... I gotta wonder where some of you are getting confidence in there being a plan or lane picked or whatever cliche you want to use. This all seems very confused to me, at least.
I mean it's whatever but this notion that the team has finally decided to do things one way or the other to my eyes is patently false. So far this has all the hallmarks of a "compromise roster." At least they aren't signing long term deals. Yet.

I'm really not sure if he's any better of a player than his brother at this point.Kevin Hayes is actually genius pickup as a cap dump for a team trying to score a high pick. You cant accidentally overperform with him on the team. Country club atmosphere is simply too much for the team to overcome on the ice when Hayesy is in the room.
Crosby is in his final year aka rental to move, just as a thought. But Rust? Teams still want to acquire him. Eller was asked about at the deadline too.The Hawks did not trade Kane until he was a rental, when their rebuild started like 3 years before that.

There's zero downsides to sucking this year other than maybe it upsets Sid or whatever. And if the team somehow contends against all odds, then they did so while keeping a good set of assets to build to the future with anyways.
The path Dubas chose has no real downsides the way I see it especially if you think (as we all prolly do) that there's zero chance we can win a cup with the core.
I dunno we came perilously close to a lottery pick this year and now we're gonna have a full season of no Jake. Sully is still here too.I think the downside is conversely, we're not going to suck ENOUGH more than anything else.
Yeah there was a path to not being where we're at now but that involve JR, Hextall, Dubas, and Sully not screwing the pooch and well they all did.The downside is that we are here in the first place and shouldn't be nor did we need to be but evidently the team just couldn't put some people's planet-sized egos in check. So I won't stop being irritated about that anytime soon as it shits all over the core.
Yeah, you figure a kid is 18 at the draft and it's at least four years until the average player is a regular. So they expect to be contenders again post-2030.Good thing we're collecting all those 2027 picks. That should help us with the rebuild in 2030.
Did I say 2030? Sorry, the plan changed, we're now rebuilding in 2034.
As has been mentioned, might be worth it to see if Colton could be had from Colorado. Always liked his game.
Eller or Acciari at max retain for Colton and a 3rd.
I mean, again, this is hindsight. Your best example is one of the greatest swaps in NHL history because it turned into B2B cups for the Penguins and Francis went on to be a HOF center. At the time (not sure how old you are), that was a very apprehensive trade they made and it was considered very high risk as Cullen was a better scorer and Zalapsky was a big time PMD. So yeah, a highly risky trade worked out. Great. This team has tried that over the years with good luck, most recently in 2016 - Perron/Hags and Scuds/Daley. But very rarely do teams wanting to make the playoffs and compete for cups just trade off valuable impact players. Show me an example in recent history. You absolutely do. This franchise has a huge, storied history of trading off HHOFs and leading scorers to make a move. It's the very mythos of our whole 1st era-- Cullen and Zalapski for Francis, Jennings, and Sammuelsson! It's been kind of a mistake that we got away from that to be honest.
"OMG WE GOT GRANLAND!" said no San Jose Sharks fan or player.Literally no one is excited that Kevin Hayes is on the Penguins. People are happy that they're finally making the difficult decisions they need to do and start the rebuild, rather than the tire spinning they've done in the past 3-4 years.
Do you think Sharks fans liked watching the Sharks as they gradually declined and sold off their top pieces? Of course not. But this is what a rebuild looks like.
Figured out?I'm not super confident that Dubas has it figured out. Did you not see the Huberdeau, Weegar, Tkachuk trade?Show me an example in recent history.
I will be calling it "We're a top 5 Lottery Team" lineThat 4th line is going to exist forever and be called our identity line.
Like I said, he negates any fears of all of our mid cast offs having a career year at once.I'm really not sure if he's any better of a player than his brother at this point.
I know exactly what I said.
How'd that work out for Calgary?Did you not see the Huberdeau, Weegar, Tkachuk trade?
Landeskog's LTIR only kicks in on day 1 of the season though. Until then they can only go over by 10% of the cap. This limits their flexibility.I don't think that's quite right. Landy is on LTIR so that's $7mil. I don't believe Nuke counts against them so that's $6mil. They have 13.3mil in space if I'm not mistaken.
For me its more of a fatalistic and realist view. FSG picked their guy. He isn't going anywhere. We could line up outside the area with pitchforks and burn Dubas in effigy. FSG brought him in, for as long as they did. He's going to at a minimum see the length of that contract to show FSG at least his plan with a post Sid Penguins. So do I like Dubas so far? No. I don't even though I championed him arriving. But I realize he is not going anywhere. So I don't waste the time complaining about him exhaustively.Obviously you don't judge a cake before it's actually finished baking but I'm sorry... I gotta wonder where some of you are getting confidence in there being a plan or lane picked or whatever cliche you want to use. This all seems very confused to me, at least.

To add to this. Kane wasn't happy about DeBrincat going and it's flashes of Sid and Jake and Sid not being happy losing Jake. Both moves started that rebuild. The Hawks did not trade Kane until he was a rental, when their rebuild started like 3 years before that.
Like I said, he negates any fears of all of our mid cast offs having a career year at once.
Hayesy will keep the boys loose on the road! Beers on the plane in the “national”! Steak dinners… he knows a good spot in every town!
I can see the Yohe article now: “cap dump or not, Kevin Hayes is bringing much needed levity to these Penguins”
“Despite being predicted to finish in last place, the Penguins appear to be in good spirits at the start of camp. Much of that can be attributed to new arrival Kevin Hayes presence in the locker room. The Penguins were paid to take Hayes, but you’d never know that based on his play in 3 on 3 practice drills. I heard he grilled burgers at Sid’s house….”
Sorry. I’m having too much fun with this
