yup.......highly competent players who would add huge value to the Leaf yet are scoffed at because they just aren't sexy enough for most of Leaf Nation.

I don't think that they are scoffed at in anyway. Anderson would be a huge add. Pesce would be a huge add. Love them both on the team... that being said, just because we might want them, doesn't mean that the other team has any motivation to move them, barring dumb overpays by us.

Some Leafs fans have a hard time grasping that most teams in the league dont have any desire to trade away young core players

Gotta give to get so if a team has an abundance at one position, why not trade from a strength to address a weakness ??

It makes sense in theory, but a the same time young impact players are very rarely traded by any team these days.

Most trades today follow a format of picks and prospects for vets (like the Muzzin deal)

True at the TDL. Dubas will have more options this summer as far as RHD goes. Let's see if he can get an extra base hit like he did acquiring Muzzin.

we all know who could be traded to address to RHD the Leafs so dearly need, but god forbid you contemplate trading a player of value to get back value.

For the type of RHD that we NEED, it's going to end up costing us one of; Kadri, Nylander, or perhaps even Mitch (If his contract demands are too much). But, we have to find a team that also NEEDS a player like that, has the cap space, and trading away that RHD, isn't going to create a giant hole on their team, that they feel that they can't replace.

There just isn't that many options out there, where both teams needs are met. It's why we haven't been able to do a deal yet. ... I mean we've been talking about the need for a good RHD for over two years now.

Nylander for Pesce. helps both teams, it's just too obvious, but there's nothing sexy about Pesce, all he does is play a fantastic defensive game, just what the Leafs need.

Not that this directly has anything to do with the current conversation, but I do feel like we are a mentally weak and privledged team. I like that we are focused on skill, but we need guys who know how to use that skill effectively and consistently, and will consistently give winning efforts. Typically that comes down to the coach, and Babcock is easily the largest factor in this, but your players have to inspire that atmosphere as well. I'm just not seeing enough out of the Leafs.

A lot of people say that adding a physical presence will inspire that, but I think it has more to do with the mindset of those physical presences than anything. The mindset of playing for the team and putting in hard work, rather than playing for yourself. That's what I see out of pretty much every guy on the Marlies, but not really what I see on the Leafs. Keefe vs. Babcock could be the reason, or perhaps that in the AHL you are working to make it to the NHL, whereas there is nowhere to go once you made the NHL... Except winning a Cup, which doesn't seem to be a priority for a lot of guys based on their play. If we want to win a Cup, that is the first thing that needs to be figured out IMO.

I'd love that trade. Carolina doesn't do that trade. Nothing to do with value though. They also need his defensive game. They are a budget team, and he's got a great contract to the end of the 23/24 season. Faulk and TvR are UFA's at the end of the next season, and Hamilton the year after. Pesce is their only RHD, signed long-term. If there was a time to strike on that trade, it was while Carolina was struggling, and had no offense. Before Nylander signed. I think our opportunity has passed.

100% Carolina does this deal right now. They need finishers if they can get them and Nylander may help one of their top two lines truly break through and while losing Pesce would sting, I think investing in a true #1 goalie is far more important than one dman.....just look how far they got with two castaways. (and no Darling).

I mean, Pesce is a solid 4 type player but he didnt have a great playoffs. Would you trade Zaitsev for Nylander? Thats Pesce's closest comparable on the Leafs (except Zaitsev had a great playoffs).

I think Carolina would have to add though. probably a pick or two to get the far more dynamic player in Nylander.

yes that ship has sailed, but many here would not agree with the trade being a good trade, because Prince Willy is though to be worth far more than a great defensive D man on a sweetheart contract for years to come.

Would anyone do Kadri and Kapanen for Pesce and one of their prospects like Necas(probably unlikely) Gauthier or Kuokkanen? Hurricanes get a lot of help on forward that can help their scoring issues and we free up some cap space and get a partner for Rielly who is on a good contract.

Brown and Zaitsev (maybe retain 50% of Browns contract since it's only 1 year left) for Fabbri and Bortuzzo. Maybe add Borgman or Rosen in the deal?

D pairs could look like this

Rielly-Pesce
Muzzin-Liljegren
Dermott-Bortuzzo

The blade cuts both ways. Nylander did not have a good season or playoff. Comparing Z to Pecse might be a stretch. If Canes lose Ferland, they might be more interested in one of our forwards. There is deal to be had. Will be interesting to see if they finally get it done this summer.

I was wondering if there something out there like a rumor that CBJ was moving Anderson?
