Kreider has to go for futures, whether that’s prospects or picks. Trading him for Dvorak, as mentioned above, doesn’t help the Rangers get under the cap.
They’ve got about $9.5-10m in space right now. 8 of that is going to go to Trouba. Then you’ll need another 7-9 to get Buchnevich, Lemieux and DeAngelo under contract.
In fact, just trading Kreider for futures won’t be enough. They’ll have to make another move beyond that.

If you're talking about $$$ to sign RFAs, there are other avenues.
Names and a Shattenkirk dump gives you space. If needed Strome. By some miracle, Staal... but I have a feeling the NYR brass want to hold on to him.

There aren’t really. They need to clear at least $6m in cap to sign all their RFAs.

I'm game, but Dvorak makes just about as much as Kreider. Rangers would have to deal Namestnikov and Buchnevich to pay everyone else.
Edmonton is going to be terrible again. I'd take their top 5 protected 2020 1st and Pulujajilkfhiuqwrh (whatever his name is) and call it a day, too.

Names + Strome = 7+
Names + Shatty ( even at 50% ) = 7+
Names + Shatty buyout = 9M this year
Shatt wont be a teams 1st option. Once the dust settles, there should be some interest in him as a QB.
Staal may have value as well but he'd have to agree to it

Well, I think you could see them address the cap through other trades. If you can move Kreider (or Buch) for a center, it makes too much sense to do it, and create the space through moving some combination of other parts such as Namestnikov, Strome (who would then be redundant), etc.

1.) They aren’t trading Strome and Namestnokov both. Centers. Strome less likely that Names.
2.) The Rangers have been trying to trade Shattenkirk at 50% for months.
3.) The Shattenkirk buyout is really really bad.
Kreider for Heponiemi+1 would be nice.
Gives them a C with a ton of potential albiet one who is pint sized and weighs about as much as K'Andre Miller's shoe.

Not sure why you think it would take 9m in cap space to sign those guys? Buch will probably command 3.5m aav.. lemieux 1.5 for two years... DeAngelo 1.5 for 2 years. Should take 7m

I did say 7-9. I think Lemieux and DeAngelo could top $2m each. Buchnevich will depend on how much term you give him.

1. Why not? Names was played on wing and Dvorak would be a Strome replacement.
2. Yes. He's not going to receive much of a return
3. We save a lot this year and get hit next year.
