Would anyone be opposed to using Kreider to unload Smiths full cap hit?

Would Colorado take on Smith’s contract to substantially lower the purchase price on Kreider? Would we?

I just don't think there's need.
There's only 2 years left on his contract, for which most of our young guys are cost controlled anyway, and while he limits our cap flexibility, it's not really needed right now. Yes, it means we likely have to move Kreider, but I think we were honestly losing him to FA anyway the moment we sign Panarin

It was just a thought. I mean yes we can bury Smith but we would still be carrying 3+ million in dead cap with him in Hartford.

It's reasonable, but I think where the Rangers are, they need to maximize the asset return on a Kreider trade.

What a summer! Panarin signed as UFA and we drafted Kaapo Kakko. Fox and Jacob Trouba were signed before the draft for peanuts - a busy summer indeed!
I still believe we need this season to build chemistry though, and we have so many new players in NY including newly drafted prospects in Kratsov. If we have any question marks going into a new season it would be in our #top 6 center position.

We've got picks we don't need, 2nd in 2020, 1st in 2021, etc. We also have a butt load of quality middle 6 forward prospects that are near nhl ready, at least one should make the team but after losing Pavs, Nyquist, and Donskoi we could really use a top 6 winger. What do you need?
