I'm curious why most of you are so eager to move Kreider? He adds an element to the top 6 that is severely lacking at this point. We've seen in the past what Kreider can do with talent around him. He will now have an abundance of talent around him.

Namestikov should be moved, as well as some other smaller contracts. Then, if you want to trade Buch+ for a top 2 Center, go for it.
Because kreider is a case of selling high... Namestnikov is a case of selling low.

Reactions: Amazing Kreiderman
Lee contract is ok. Really like the Duchene deal (as much as you can ever like a FA deal). The Habs offer-sheet is kind of funny, just because no-one ever expects them

They don't need to move him though to make this roster work. You don't sell a guy just to sell him. He adds a dynamic this team needs. They're clearly finished with their rebuild, as evidence by them throwing a ton of money at the top available FA this off season, so why not keep the talent you have?

This team is not a contender this year. We will be a big time contender in 1-2 years when the kids start dominating. If we were a real contender this year, I’d consider keeping Kreider this year and letting him walk.

If we re-sign Kreider, we will be in big trouble in 1-3 years when contracts are due for Zib, Kakko, Kravtsov, Chytil, Fox, etc, all of whom will be more valuable pieces when this team is at its peak. Do you really want to give up one or more of those players because of a Kreider in his 30s?

Kreider has to go because the time is not right now and a long term deal will stifle the future.

I wonder what made Montreal think they'd have a better chance at an offer sheet on Aho than Point. I mean Carolina's got over $22 million to play with and all of their key players signed. They need a goalie but even so. Tampa can hardly afford giving Point what a 92 point player would make and has other RFA's besides.

They aren't finished.

And they aren't going to be able to keep him beyond this year. What would you prefer? Let him walk for nothing?

Wouldn't Nashville need to move out Turris first? They don't have much to sign this offseason, but next year is insane. Can't see them adding Kreider because of this alone. Have to make that move first.

Colorado though? They whiffed on everything for the most part. They have a crazy good future too. If there is a team with assets to make the move, it's them. Edmonton should be in on it too. They have less assets.

I'd prefer they keep him, see how the first few months of the season play out, if the roster is working, extend him, if not, trade him before the deadline.

They have a lot of money coming off the books the next 2 years. This team has a ton of flexibility moving forward.

They don't have the flexibility now, which takes priority.

Montreal just missed out on Lee and they're going to lose on Aho too. They have their 1st's--Nick Suzuki, Ryan Poehling--a number of other pretty good prospects.

They didn’t get Duchene or Lee then panicked and gave this offer to AHO that no way gets rejected by the Canes

SO Names for a pick and ideally retain on Smith or Shatty

Everything you're asking for is very short sighted and fixated on winning this year.

If we don't move him, we have to sign a 29 year old to a UFA premium deal that will reach $8M+ which will hamper our ability to keep our big 3 or 4 together. See Toronto's cap hell.

We're not selling a guy just to sell a guy. We're trading him for valuable assets, prospect, picks, cheaper team controlled roster player and we offload some salary. Good for the future.

We added more in the last 30 days than ever before. Whatever dynamic Kreider brings, we can replace with similar or different attributes. Can't fall in love with what a single player brings and over commit.

Finished with rebuild doesn't mean we are going to start being reckless. Staal, Smith, Shattenkirk, and Lundqvist eating up $26M is not the starting point of winning a cup. Chytil, Andersson, Kravtsov, Fox, Kakko having 0-50 games in the NHL also isn't the timing when we're ready to compete. Let the cheesecake cool for 6 hours out of the oven before it's ready.
