Richards, Gomez, Drury, Redden...

None are applicable because “This time it’s different!”

Again, my point is NONE of us have sheet to say to anyone saying ‘NYR just throw money at every FA”

Because it’s true. We do. Own it
Why do I need to say shit to them? I'm just going to enjoy this team they're building for me to enjoy.

Anyways, Gaborik signing was a decade ago. Since then it's been Richards and now Panarin in ten seasons?

@Mikos87 was on the money with Tanev being of surprisingly high interest (he said this a WHILE back around the deadline). Somewhat helps to explain that contract, but still...yikes.

LMFAO! We're literally back to being cap-strapped ... this is madness. We have 8.6M in cap space WITHOUT Trouba signed ... yup.

Not signed either atm: DeAngelo, Buch and Lemieux.

Ok. This madness. Can't wait to see what the **** will happen here.

The sky is falling!

Assuming Gorton can trade Namestnikov and Kreider, the team probably doesn't need to buyout Smith or Shattenkirk?
Kreider yes, Namestnikov should probably stay.

As explained a few times, buying Shattenkirk does practically nothing this year.

Awful as it may seem for some--he's our player now and we might as well hope for the best and hope he delivers. IMO he was Columbus's best player in the playoffs and after 4 years in the NHL he is a point per game regular season player. There ain't that many of them around. He's not on the wrong side of 30 and he's never really been seriously hurt. He works well with others--has eyes in the back of his head--he's not selfish or stupidly unselfish. I can see Panarin working magic with either of Kakko or Kravtsov. I can see others like Chytil benefiting from playing with him as well. We're also not putting the entire offensive load on Zibanejad's shoulders.

So what is the third move here?

Vesey gone frees up $2.275m.

Kreider gone frees up $4.625m

Smith in the AHL frees up $1.05m

We need to get more space to get DeAngelo and Buchnevich on the right deals.

Is the best move to pay someone a mid-round pick to take on a retained Smith, Shatty, or Staal? Seems well worth it for locking up the other RFAs on good contracts.

The other options here seem to be moving Names or Strome, but I’d prefer to taking a bit to give up one of the D.

So let's take a look at the Rangers cap situation:

They have $8.7m in cap space right now with the following players to sign:
Trouba
Lemieux
ADA
Buch

Let's keep it simple and say Trouba gets $8.7m (doubtful but for simplicity sake)

That leaves:
Lemieux
ADA
Buch

let's assume Kreider is traded and Namestnikov is traded with no money coming back (picks/prospects)

Lemieux - 2 years @ $1.75m per season
ADA - 2 years @ $2.25m per season
Buch - 6 years @ $4m per season

$8m for those guys

$8.625m out with Kreider and Namestnikov gone

That means a roster of 11F and 8D.

Send Smith down, save ~$1m and use that money to sign a 4th line winger.

I don't think they NEED to buy someone out. It would make things easier.

I still believe Shattenkirk at half cap hit is moveable.

The question was when was the last time we signed a 27year old 1st line forward and I responded with the exact last time it happened. Isn’t even debatable Gaborik was an elite goal scorer when we signed him with an injury history.

So you understand that having Panarin is different than having Gaborik.
