ppl forgetting how allergic panarin and strome are to kakko and how little time it took for gallant to move kakko to the 93-20 line despite playing his best hockey as an NYR.

But Kakko had his best run of his career on a line with Panarin and Strome?

Fyi... Vatrano is 9th in the league in ES points since 2019 amongst all fowards who've averaged less than 15 minutes per game. Third in shots with 425 during that time. This guy is good

He's averaged over 20 goals per 82 over the last 3 seasons (23).

Usually you don't get a 40 pointish per season player for a 4th rounder.

I guess Florida is clearing space for a bigger move.

Dont know a ton about Vatrano defensively, but this looks like a very good depth move considering the cost. Low risk. Good on Drury for digging this one out.

Might be a rental but who cares for a 4th.

I feel like Kakko’s wrist won’t be all the way healed/him being comfortable with it until September, I’m expecting a bottom 6 role for him when he comes back this year.

Hope he surprises me though, and grabs that second line spot though.

I broke my wrist and was 100% about 3 months later after surgery + a lot of physical therapy. I hope he heals faster than that.

Super solid deal. Vatrano can displace Hunt and should get a look there, but even if he doesn’t he makes our bottom six better. A 4th at this stage for us is pennies. Another deal or two like this sets us up to have much better depth for the stretch run without having to spend significant assets.

It's an alright move, if not a good one for what it is.

The bigger stuff will come over the weekend I imagine. Would be ideal to get things done before the b2b vs Tampa/Carolina but waiting out other teams isn't a terrible idea.

Bring me Copp, Lehkonen and Lindholm and lets go!

Don't think I've ever seen a NYR trade as well received as this one.

Very excited to have the bottom six strengthened, will be pivotal in improving our 5v5 game.

Edit: Aside from the Gomez trade, of course.

I think literally any depth forward not named Howden would've been received well, especially only for a 4th.

This dude can produce and even if its at half of his career clip its better than what almost the entire bottom 6 has done up until this point this year.

I still want Lehkonen, but im not sure if this takes him off the table. I like the restraint by Drury to find a less expensive option though

His +/- is iffy, but it makes sense if he's been a regular PK'er. Still, I think it does exactly what everyone is saying" shores up the third line nicely on a budget. Hopefully things click with him.

It's a low low bar to overcome to be an improvement over our current bottom 6 mess. I'm sure this will age terrifically but this can't hurt.

Yes, Vatrano should definitely kick McKegg out of the lineup.

He can score 5 on 5 which is huge

From 2 years ago, but still relevant. Fits a lot of needs and can play the system Gallant wants

The undersized winger has seemingly developed into a reliable sniper and 5-v-5 weapon for Florida. While participating in 81 regular-season games during the 2018-19 campaign, Vatrano recorded career-high marks in goals (24), assists (15), points (39), penalty minutes (38), and games played (81).

More impressively, Frank Vatrano recorded 22 even-strength goals, providing the power-play reliant Cats with a much-needed 5-v-5 goal-scoring option. Furthermore, Vatrano also developed into a dependable two-way winger on Florida’s third line, playing a proficient game on the defensive end, too.

While averaging roughly 15 minutes of ice time per game, Vatrano recorded a whopping 139 hits as well as 74 blocked shots. As well, he even registered more takeaways (33) than giveaways (30) on the season. While things didn’t necessarily work out with Vatrano’s hometown Bruins, the Panthers certainly found themselves a diamond in the rough.
