I guess Florida did this to clear cap space? Feels like the small level of sacrifice was worth it as a show of good faith from Drury to the NYR players for the wins we've been getting.

I have no idea how Valtrano plays though. Anyone want to give a rundown on the type of player he is? Does he hit?

It's because of a lack of control beyond this year, but in the NYRs case, that's a postitive and not a negative.

They might be able to clean up on rentals. Teams are obsessed over term and cost certainty right now.
That's great. Maybe we can win a Stanley Cup if we stockpile enough UFA's this season by giving up late round picks lol.

He should take that 2RW spot from Hunt for the time being but Gallant will probably just bench Gauthier instead.

Volume shooter with a motor and some defensive awareness. He's a clear upgrade on Hunt in that spot if Gallant can stop forcing it.

Fine move. Fills the roster with an NHL caliber player so you can pitch to the owner/locker room/fan base that you are committed to giving Panarin/Zibanejad/Kreider a "real shot," without spending anything of substance.

What's not to like?

New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has acquired forward Frank Vatrano from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The fourth-round pick Florida receives from the Rangers will be the later of the two fourth-round selections the Rangers own (either their own fourth-round pick or Winnipeg's fourth-round pick).

I don't think he moves the needle significantly, but he's had trouble cementing himself amid a deep Florida roster. His skillset fits really well with our particular needs, so I could see him helping this team out significantly more.

He's not a needle mover, but perhaps he's a black hole eliminator. Which gives you more of a fighter's chance in the playoffs at least.

Nice add. Now do Lehkonen and we're set

Kreider Zibs Laffy
Panarin Strome Vatrano
Lehkonen Chytil Kakko
Goodrow Rooney Reaves/Hunt/Brodz
