Two isolated deals where two teams are pressed against the cap to get cap compliant during a flat cap isnt the standard. But nothing new coming from you here.

Isolated situation. If you think that way every single player in the league is a cap dump unless they are a super star. Clearly Bjorkstrand, C Brown and Pacioretty have more value than they were traded for but it was all circumstantial. Look at what Lehkonen was just traded for at the trade deadline. Timing matters, it doesnt mean every single player in the league is a cap dump.
What exactly do you thibk the Isles situation is right now?

How is Lekhonen even remotely a comparable when comparing contracts when traded?

They can stay cap compliant without signing Kadri. If they want to sign him they have to move something out. Which if they are smart will be Varlamov as Sorokin is the number 1. Pageau wont be the one to go for negative assets they will go another direction. Hence why he isnt a cap dump because he is too valuable a piece.

1. You have no idea who it will be

2. Which teams are lining up to take a 30-40pt 3rd liner paid $5M? The answer is none, which makes him a cap dump

Being a cap dump in this climate doesn’t mean you’re a bad player, just just teams aren’t aquiring players who aren’t worth their contracts

Second one just isn't true at all. High end 3rd line Center that can play up the lineup? Lots of teams would be interested.

Colorado would have to send some salary back up they'd easily give up value to get Pageau at $5M

Exactly, they would have to send back money. That’s something NYI can’t do.

Not an Isles fan, was clickbaited here.

But how do you all agree that a RFA signing qualifies as a transaction ?
Weekes speaks about transactions, not signings...

But the show doesn't start until september 1st, according to Lou's schedule...

Yes they can. But even if they can't I'd still be happy to take Pageau at full value and give up like a 2nd to get him.

Avs can just unload ~1.5M elsewhere then. Pageau is a good player and certainly not negative value. That's just dumb.

Hopefully one of the four moves will be to Kansas City or Quebec

So if Nylander were a year from UFA you’d call him a “spare part”?
In a trade for a 1c still with RFA control yes I would. Bertuzzi as an upcoming UFA would hold zero value in this type of trade. With an extension it would be different.

No chance he is a cap dump. You win with players like him, more to it than points but not on these boards.
You can say what you like but comparable players league wide with his cap hit are also considered cap dumps. Hes not a bad player just overpaid.

Trading Dobson for anything short of an overpayment would be terrible asset management. He has the potential to be one the best players in his draft class if he keeps trending in that direction.
I agree.

I can't believe people consider this guy an insider.

He claims the NYI have 4 moves coming but doesn't put a timeline on it meaning it could happen today, in December, at seasons end or January 15th 2028 because Weeks gives no timeline.

Anybody can do that.

Maybe they'll move the arena, too? Ever think about that?
Clearly they’re moving the arena including the foundation of the building to Siberia just to appease one Rangers fan. If he’s lucky, they’ll change history and grant the Islanders dynasty wins to the Rangers as well.

Islanders are signing their remaining 4 RFA’s Dobson, Romanov, Bellows and AHL defender Parker Wotherspoon.

Anyone could have predicted that...Weekes has to stay in the spotlight daily. :shakehead

Pacioretty is a good player, Bjorkstrand is a good player, Brown a good player, Fleury was a good player, etc , etc. all traded for peanuts

Teams under massive cap constraints (like NYI will be if they want Kadri) trade away players like Pageau all the time.

Pageau is a good player who isn’t worth his contract and no team will pay anything of value for that in a flat cap.

I agree.
“Zero value” 😂

So Huberdeau had “zero value” before he re-signed with Calgary?

Either NYI get a chance to sign a very good player in Bert if he likes it there, or they flip him for another 1st +
