As for Sutter, I don't think you can say he was ill-suited for the role they had in mind for him given that management and Willie had different ideas. I think management thought they were getting a durable player who can handle the tough defensive matchups while also having some offensive upside. It didn't work out that way.

I have haunting memories of First Line Sutter dragging down the Sedins.

I still don’t understand why people Dylan Guenther would have been the Canucks pick

You think that idiot Ron Delorme would have picked him?

Guy is the worst judge of talent in the history of scouting he has 3 leagues to judge and hasn’t been able to find a shred of talent.
he would have picked Tyler Boucher if he was in the CHL during his draft year.

Zero chance we would’ve picked Boucher. He was projected as a late 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Probably would’ve drafted Guenther or Coronato.

It was well reported that the Canucks were prioritizing centres and defensemen (which was perfectly reasonable in this draft). I believe Sillinger was the next on the list after their draft targets were gone. Sillinger would have been my pick as well. I didn't like Guenther.

Here’s my Canucks wouldn’t have picked Guenther had they kept the pick post. :deadhorse
Why did Delorme nail it in Western Canada for a lot of picks in the late 80's to mid 90's and then piss his pants for the last 20 odd years? It's bizarre really. The Canucks as a whole has shit the bed drafting out of this country.

I would agree. Also, no chance they take Wyatt Johnston. Hopefully avoid Boucher whom Ott took.

Would be fine with Sillinger as the pick. Tops out as a 2C with good solid size. Think he has more to give than what he's shown so far. Heck, some were talking MacTavish would be there and he went 3rd. Think Van fans were hoping for Clarke who went 1 pick ahead, then MacTavish/Sillinger would be next. Edvinsson, I don't recall how high Van fans were on him. Great tools, but needed coaching to get him to maximize it.

I don't know who the Canucks would have chosen, but Delorme hasn't been a main decision maker regarding the Canucks' picks since Gillis promoted Eric Crawford to a position over him in about 2012. Folks may recall Gillis making the change and later saying one of his biggest mistakes was not making changes to the scouting department sooner.

When Guenther was drafted in 2021 I had the feeling Benning had pretty much taken over the decision making on the draft, having parted ways with Judd Brackett the year before.

Right now 2021 is looking like a bleak draft year for the Canucks. They had no picks in the 1st, 3rd or 4th rounds, extra picks and in the 5th and 6th rounds and I"m not sure the Canucks hold the rights to anyone they drafted that year other than Klimovitch and Koskenvuo.

They should have cleaned house with anybody who had any say or input with the CHL. It's the worst scouting in the league in that area. Multiple blown top 10 picks, and nothing promising in the later rounds.

Delorme's bio for awhile said he was head of the CHL scouting and it is still what he is involved in.

I will never believe they would have chosen a quality CHL player as they didnt show it the countless years previously.

Delorme is a figure head at this point. Like tyhee said it's been a dozen years. The guy birddoggd some players in Western Canada for a decade. But the whole dept has shit the bed since 2012 which is a good barometer to work off of. Those players are 30 and under and why exactly are these scouts missing out on good players? They do well in Europe and in the US, but they crap their pants here.
