The Giants are racist when they are actively trying to keep Patrick Graham as their DC? Good luck with that one, Mr. Flores.

This is all about the Rooney Rule, which is racist and offensive by its very nature. Flores is correct if he is going after that.

As much as I think this lawsuit is bogus, I'd love to see this get to disclosure with the Ross allegations that Flores was paid to tank. No chance in hell it gets that far.

And Ross trying to convince him to recruit brady (just when he thought he was out...).

Meet the Washington Commanders!

honestly, I like the name. Fitting for a DC team.
Washington Generals has a better ring to it...

Can someone tell me what the grounds for the lawsuit are? Let's say the interview was a sham to comply with the Rooney Rule. But the Rooney Rule is an internal policy not a law. The most you could say is that Flores was not hired because he's black. That's kind of a stretch isn't it? How can he prove that? He wasn't hired because of Schoen's familiarity with Daboll.

His "grounds" are the current political & social climates. He's hoping for a settlement basically. Every lawyer in the world knows the NFL is terrified to open their books publicly, so they will pay Flores to go away. He just committed career suicide, however.

Yeah. It sounded like his name was getting smeared because of whatever happened in Miami…”hard to work with”, “butted heads with ownership”, etc. Stuff that might make it hard for him to get a job elsewhere. Whether the smear was due to race or not, I doubt anyone will know for certain. However, would a racist owner have hired Flores as head coach in the first place? I doubt it.

It seems to me that whatever all happened in Miami, Flores knew it was damaging to his prospects of getting another HC gig. So he went the nuclear option here. Some of his law suit is race baiting. Some of it is legitimate. Probably a cash squeeze while people know his name.

I have no strong feelings either way, but if what Boomer said about the Giants offering the job to Daboll are true before even interviewing Flores, then the latter has a point about the Rooney Rule and his interview being a total sham. Not worthy of a lawsuit, IMO, but totally unprofessional from the Giants.

Agreed that the rule is bad, but I’m not sure what the Giants are supposed to do? They didn’t make the rule. You can’t tell them not to have a favorite candidate after an interview. I really hope this rule is exposed. There are many minority coaches who will get interviews without some stipulation to do so, and they won’t have their time wasted on sham interviews when a team clearly has ties to another candidate via their GM.

I don’t know how this shakes out but I give Flores credit for be willing to terminate his NFL future to shine light on something.

The Giants stuff has been huge because of the Belichick texts but the allegations against the dolphins owner are genuinely league breaking stuff, especially because he has investments in sports gambling ventures.

Look I will fully accept that I may have blindspots here, but I would love to know - what are the Giants' options in this situation?

1. Not follow the Rooney rule?

2. Not make an offer to their preferred candidate and risk losing him elsewhere while they finish conducting R1 interviews?

3. Stop interviewing candidates before the ink is dried on a contract with Daboll while you know he is still interviewing, and risk having no backup alternative available?

I have been the "sham interview" before on multiple occasions in my career. One time a company's HR department was required to conduct an external search before approving an internal transfer as a pure formality. One time I found out that the company had extended an offer to a different candidate but were waiting to hear back, and I was a backup candidate. It really sucks and I feel for Flores but is pretty common practice in recruiting and interviewing for logistical and or internal policy reasons.

I agree with everything here, except the Giant did satisfy the Rooney Rule by interviewing Leslie Frazier.

I've also been on interviews where I knew there was a candidate that was favored to get the job, but it raised my profile with the organization from zero to being strongly considered. Was I bummed after giving a great interview that I didn't get the gig, absolutely. But I also put myself on the map & gave myself future opportunities for them to consider me for other positions.

I thought they changed it to require interviewing 2 external diverse candidates?

I had two of them myself. Two of which I myself abruptly stopped the interview and asked to speak with a supervisor, or for them to provide me contact information to a higher-up.

One dingbat literally avoided looking at me, sat in her chair with her side facing me, but was also leaning back and making these smacking sounds with her mouth and taking annoyed deep breathes whilst asking me questions. I flat-out told her that was disrespectful, and that she was wasting my time.

The second one just pissed me off! She couldn't wrap it into her head that my previous employer let me go because of downsizing. I informed her that, compared to the other employees, I spent the least amount of time with the company, I didn't have seniority, and...the best part, I still put down that employer as a reference!!

She kept coming at me from at every direction, and I just lost it. Called her a f***ing idiot.

He even filed his lawsuit before all the HC vacancies were filled.

Not really... go get your guy. If the Bills know they want Daboll then lock him down as quickly as possible. Waiting to interview a guy you know you aren’t going to take is lousy and uncomfortable for both sides and has been for awhile. The Rooney rule has worked once or twice but more often than not I see it as demeaning.

Even if some of Flores allegations prove to be true, such as the Dolphins Owner paying him to lose games, he has basically committed career suicide. He will likely never be an NFL Head Coach again. NFL orgs will not want to hire and have to worry about always looking over their shoulder for a potential lawsuit being shot at them.

Now as for the Giants, didnt they interview Leslie Frasier before hiring Daboll? And then there was the report from the NY Post that the Giants did not offer Daboll the job before interviewing Flores. There could be a lot of holes in this and it can go south real quick for Flores. So not only will a lawsuit settlement be reduced significantly from what he hoped for but he will have also ended his NFL Coaching career.

Flores already shit himself in the foot - his team admitted that Mara called him right after Judge was fired and said he was his first choice. Clearly the process wasn’t a sham. Just that the GM preferred someone else and the Giants ended up going that route.

Flores was in the final 2 choices. What a tool. So glad we dodged this bullet.

It's like he is the first person in history to interview for a job that's already been filled. I don't know about any of you but its happened to me plenty of times. Mildly annoying but worth the free lunch IMO.

But that’s the thing. It clearly wasn’t filled since the owner of the team initially wanted him.

Flores comes off so, so, so bad right now.

To who, Giants fans?

Press coverage of Flores and his lawsuit has been overwhelming positive towards him, and the NFL is getting absolutely pilloried. As they should--because even if Flores' lawsuit goes nowhere, the underlying issues that this shines a light on are very real and very problematic. Coupled with Hue Jackson speaking up and the developments with the Washington Team and the league's handling of the situation, and it just gets worse and worse.

The NFL has an enormous culture problem. Unfortunately most people don't care.

Hue Jackson's reason for claiming that the browns paid him to tank is that they gave him an extension. That's it. The NFL is getting pilloried by the media with zero evidence for obvious reasons. This has happened before with other cases where the media had it wrong and they are never held to account. It's their typical MO. I'm not buying what Flores is selling (not commenting about the tanking allegations).

We'll see how it plays out. Not just his lawsuit, but what results from the lawsuit and all the other shit that will eventually bubble to the surface as a result. The NFL has been creeping towards this kind of thing for decades, and this isn't going to be the end of it, either. Even if his claims are without merit, the sham interviews, the double standards, the cultural toxicity, they ARE real. It's all there in plain sight. The NFL barely tries to hide it because they're basically beholden to no one.

I think some folks aren't seeing the forest for the trees, here. This lawsuit is much bigger than the simple claims contained within it.
