It really wasn’t a stinker. Dominated from start to finish when we weren’t shooting ourselves in the foot with penalties. Hart was incredible, really amazing we didn’t have 3-4. As frustrating a game I’ve ever attended.

Oh shit, you attended this game!?

Healthy scratch incoming?

It could come back to bite us as I do believe he makes us a better team right now

But is it really gonna make or break us?

It's something to think about

I'm glad he called him out. Especially after all his shit talking about playing for losing teams and wanting to go to the world championships to play on a winner.

And hey, don't get me wrong, I had no problem with him talking that shit, but you look like an idiot when can't back it up.
That's not it Severson and Holtz and a 1st round pick going to Chicago for Patrick Kane

You know what I think - They need a finisher. This game fits my narrative.

2 goals on 50 shots changes the night

Again, if they came in here with wins against the Rangers and Dallas, you tip your cap to Hart and move on.

This game, the one where they got 50 shots, was a loss. The 4th one in a row. It's a game that they needed.

I refuse to put it in a vacuum like all 13 wins in a row as 13, 1 game winning streaks either. They are streaks for a reason, you put a few together, start feeling good about yourself and ride the wave. The opposite can happen too.
I do agree that games like this show why we need to add a sniper to take the team to the next level.

I don’t however see it as anything more than that. They’ll still win the majority if games playing like they did tonight.

On the plus side, the new lines worked pretty well in generating chances and dominating puck possession. Just didn't have the finish.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ruff keep them the same next game.

That hurts.

That absolutely hurts.

And BTW, to those here that are complaining, I distinctly remember the Devils having a 5-ON-3 at one point.

They failed to get anything then which is where the Game was lost, imo.

Not getting any points again really hurts.

And this was the last supposedly-winnable game on the Devils schedule prior to the New Year.

Things are not looking good going forward.

Sure the Devils could end up shocking me and run the table just because but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

You're not going to win many games scoring just 1 goal.

A heat map is useless without knowing how those shots came about. How many in that red area were off the rush or off quick passes?

This team isn't built to be banging away Hamilton's shots from the point in the front. Hughes and Bratt are about the only ones trying to make cross ice passes but they were fairly shut down tonight.

We need someone better than Tatar/Huala in our top 6 to enable Nico to be more of a constant threat.
That last point is the important one. When you have guys like Tatar and Haula and even Zetterlund playing important top six minutes this sort of game will happen. The scoring is carried by three forwards and one defender. Some nights that won’t be enough. That doesn’t mean they are in a death spiral And it doesn’t mean they didn’t play well but they are still young and a work in progress

Best defenseman in that game? Or best defenseman on the season?

He was our best defenseman for a few years here and I was one of his biggest defenders.

I'm not sure he's one of our three best defenseman on this year's team.

It doesn't mean he's bad, but he's 28 now, we've got a couple of good defensemen here now, etc.

I think he makes us better THIS year, but I don't want him back after this. He'll sign a decline contract somewhere else.
In the game

Bahl having to play to sit Severson would be kinda crazy but at this point why not? Up to that turnover, I thought Severson was good lately but of course the guy has his typical bone headed play to attract attention to him.
he makes a lot of bonehead plays, literally every game. if we had last year’s goaltending, his mistakes would lead to more pucks in our net.

he gives you 1 good play for every 5. always been that way.

Stop with the "sniper" talk. The team has plenty of finishing. Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Holtz, Shara, Zetterlund - all good finishers.

Do you think a sniper is player that can magically score on a night like tonight? Doesn't work like that. They go just as cold as everyone else but they score a hat trick in a game you win by five goals.

Florida is up next

We beat them last year our first try at home

And when we lost to them, Andrew Hammond play goal that day.

The only advantage I think they have that they haven't had lately is that we'll probably be facing their better goalie

But their better goalie will have not played for 11 days after having being sick and then having to sit for Bobrovsky a couple games, who got a shutout his last outing before tonight.

The bleeding does need to stop and I do like our odds.

Schmid should start Saturday. Any objections?
I'm split on that one right now

We'll definitely see him in one of the two games after that, regardless. It's a back to back. They can't possibly send him back yet. I think he'll get a proper send off either way. So if he is in on Saturday maybe that's why?

He is due for a stinker though, but I understand we can't go into a game thinking that way.

I think they'll go with Vitek if I had to guess. If this was a bigger loss (like if he allowed 4 or more goals or maybe even only 3) I'd guess they might give it to Schmid.

I don't know, I feel like they don't wanna give Schmid too much too soon, which certainly isn't a bad idea after what happened with Daws last year.
