Plus, leaving college early would almost cement his position as a LW, staying in college at center gave him a chance to show he should stay there (I'd say the jury is still out, and Anaheim seems to see him as a LW). Since he's worth $1-2M more if he can handle center, it's a risk/reward thang.

In the games I watched he doesn't look like a center at all. I saw him get completely abused on faceoffs in one game, and that's in college. He's routinely a passive triggerman and while I'm sure that can be made to work at center in some situations, it's not a strong start. Guy is a winger and isn't showing many signs of becoming a center. Another year in college is unlikely to alter that.

I too enjoy this "he's not a center" thing that has also only came up after the trade. You're kidding yourself if you don't think the Flyers were going to do everything within their power to have him be a Center.

But hey, Briere twisted the knife by calling him a LW so that's 100% what the plan they had for him was.

They absolutely were. They're trying it with Cates. Of course they'd have tried it with him. They're desperate for centers and they're delusional.

It would not have worked. That they've known for a long time that it wouldn't work because he isn't even going to be an option makes their other behavior very incompetent.

I mean this in the most positive way possible. I hope nobody finds this too negative.

The reflexive blaming is silly, the onus is on Cutter and his family - they could have sat down for an hour with Briere and Jones, cleared the air, determined the situation couldn't be fixed and everyone moves on. Instead this weird radio silence as if Cutter is a criminal defendant wary of any statement that might indict him.

This has awesome wheelchair vibes too, btw. Stand proud, Flyers Management Defender Man.

Obviously I also mean this extremely positively without a single negative vibe in my soul, but this could well be a blessing.

The Flyers were hoping this was a center solution. At worst a top line winger. He currently is not a shoe-in to be those things like they've acted he is. Whether they like it or not they're going to be forced to find a real solution. Let's hope they do it via a sound process.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of their processes now! The team is great obviously. So is management.

I've not paid attention the last 11.

I said as much in the thread of the last 2 games of the WJC. If he sticks at Center, he's doing his career a disservice.

If this franchise didn't win a shootout on the last day of the year, it would basically have over 25 years of irrelevance.

The 2004 run was 20 years ago. That was fun.

I was on board with including Gauthier in a trade that included real elite talent coming back. I said that before this hole thing happened.

I was never a believer in Gauthier's elite potential, and still am not. But he's going to look better at Anaheim than he is here. The amount of talent that team has, he won't be relied on to be the top dog, and he'll almost certainly be deployed as a LW.

Propaganda Minister. Mouthpiece. He should be ashamed of himself

I’m not one to take a chance off bashing the Flyers, but just imo don’t think that the ELC thing was the only factor.

Hayes has a lot of pull around the league, that’s clear as day. I believe it’s confirmed by Cutter he did talk to him after being drafted, and said he’s a role model or something?

Do I think Hayes shit talked Torts, and the Flyers? The city/fanbase? For sure - and it probably did play bit of a part.

Hayes is a moron, who showed true colours when Yandle was benched.

The idea behind the entire thing of burning a year of these ELC’s is to get one year closer to where there’s no set limitation to what they can be paid. Is there a difference between what someone like Lyon would be paid after a year compared to Gauthier with their pedigree? Of course.

Lyon was not able to sign a contract under Article 10 because of his age. So that’s the difference.
Yeah, like I wrote.

Dude you're so right. Turbo!

The first time I ever played D&D when I was a kid, we had this older scary-looking dude living in his mom's basement as our DM. Friend of a friend of a friend or somesuch. He had swords on the walls. Constantly cycled between Death and Venom in his cassette deck. His name was Garth.

The name Garth will forever be associated with Dungeon Master for me.

The strong sense of "Mission accomplished, rebuild a year from being over" this team has stated and exuded all because they have Gauthier and Michkov, some possibilities, and very little else has been completely wild. That they continued it, and acted like they believed it while knowing it's actually only Michkov, is PCP-Gorilla Wild.

Now they have to do a responsible thing instead of what they were trying to do. This is good and positive.
