After the goaltending was historically bad last season, Fletcher in his life-or-death campaign to prevent goals against just signed a backup/1B who has registered the 2nd worst, 7th worst, and 2nd worst all situations goals saved above expected over the last 3 seasons. He’s been arguably the worst goalie in the league. It’s a train wreck of a signing and yet another blinking neon sign of disorienting incompetence.

And the Sharks as a whole was dog shit defensively. And have been for the last few years.

Goals saved above expected is not save % or GAA. It accounts for quantity and quality. Sharks fans know how bad he’s been as an individual. I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but Martin Jones isn’t exactly joining the Lightning.

This sounds to me like a hope and a prayer, and after last season’s goaltending and this off-season of must win roster turnover to lower goals against (as Chuckles said ad nauseam), it’s a dud of a dud of a dud move.

Holtby just signed the exact same deal with Dallas

What a time to be a Flyers fan
Holtby signed with a club that is one season removed from a cup final, has an old goalie, and better tax structure (Texas). Bishop is 34-35 with an injury history that may make Holtby a starter.
I don’t like the Jones signing but it may have been what was left.

Wow. I live in San Jose. Jones was good once upon a time, but has been AWFUL for three seasons. Everyone in the league knew it. This was the one guy I wouldn't have touched with a ten foot pole. I don't understand it at all, unless Chuck says he's going to the Phantoms and one of the kids is the back up. I don't see the what if/upside here outside of "he used to be good a few years ago."

5 games in the NHL is a huge swing if you win them all. If Hart bounces back and Jones goes 10-20 there's a good chance they still miss the playoffs.
There's a good chance they miss the playoffs anyway, and again, if you are suggesting that whomever our goalie would be is going to go 20-10 as a backup, I think you need to take a look at the options. Most of the better options went at or near .500 on better teams. I would absolutely prefer a guy like Brossoit or Halak, but it is highly unlikely that difference between Halak/Brossoit (or other name) and Jones is going to be the difference between this team and the playoffs...and if it is, they aren't getting far in the playoffs anyway.

I'm suggesting he's not winning 10 games here.... Think about that... others could win 15 of 30 most likely.

Adding the new signings gives them $8m to sign Hart and Sanheim.

So is this a move to tank for a shot at Wright or just flat out incompetence? I know my squad has made some baffling moves but this past week has been a tire fire for you guys.

You all deserve better.

best case scenario is jones finds it. but my best case scenario is that i hit it big on crypto, seems just as likely.

hopefully the coyotes hold on to kuemper and we can trade for him during the season

Why sign them when we can get cap space instead for the retread marathon?

Best part about this off-season is the 180 bucks plus tax I will save by not getting NHL centre ice next season.

Fletcher is trolling us hard

The only positive I have is that goaltending is random.

But this is another player with years of terrible track record & 30+ years old which seems to be Chuck’s wheelhouse. The Flyers aren’t exactly an organization at both the executive level & coaching level that seemingly offer up good solutions in to creating possession & suppressing shots/chances so you’re not really getting any help there either.

Various managers in my company would have a look at that and say - look, there is an upwards trend in the bottom right chart. GET HIM

I love how his worst statistical category in that Red Sea is “Bad Starts.”

It’s like Fletcher is trolling us with his comments all off-season. I wish he was honestly.

I was more positive about this off-season than most on here, but their second or even 1B need was backup goaltender. They needed to hit it out of the park. And this is not it.

As far as I’m concerned, we still have a hole at BUG

I'm very happy with the offseason as a whole -- but Martin Jones scares me.
