I'm fairly certain he was being sarcastic.Yeah, I don't get why people are being so doom and gloom about this signing. It's perfectly fine. Nothing great or bad, just fine.
After the goaltending was historically bad last season, Fletcher in his life-or-death campaign to prevent goals against just signed a backup/1B who has registered the 2nd worst, 7th worst, and 2nd worst all situations goals saved above expected over the last 3 seasons. He’s been arguably the worst goalie in the league. It’s a train wreck of a signing and yet another blinking neon sign of disorienting incompetence.
And the Sharks as a whole was dog shit defensively. And have been for the last few years.
Holtby signed with a club that is one season removed from a cup final, has an old goalie, and better tax structure (Texas). Bishop is 34-35 with an injury history that may make Holtby a starter.Holtby just signed the exact same deal with Dallas
What a time to be a Flyers fan
There's a good chance they miss the playoffs anyway, and again, if you are suggesting that whomever our goalie would be is going to go 20-10 as a backup, I think you need to take a look at the options. Most of the better options went at or near .500 on better teams. I would absolutely prefer a guy like Brossoit or Halak, but it is highly unlikely that difference between Halak/Brossoit (or other name) and Jones is going to be the difference between this team and the playoffs...and if it is, they aren't getting far in the playoffs anyway.5 games in the NHL is a huge swing if you win them all. If Hart bounces back and Jones goes 10-20 there's a good chance they still miss the playoffs.
I'm suggesting he's not winning 10 games here.... Think about that... others could win 15 of 30 most likely. There's a good chance they miss the playoffs anyway, and again, if you are suggesting that whomever our goalie would be is going to go 20-10 as a backup, I think you need to take a look at the options. I'm pretty sure that's what happened.I don’t like the Jones signing but it may have been what was left.
Whenever Reimer has to play 6 in a row or playoffs the collar has been tight.Reimer does not have below .900 NHL season. Under Pressure? what pressure, as a back up pressure?
Adding the new signings gives them $8m to sign Hart and Sanheim.

The only positive I have is that goaltending is random.
But this is another player with years of terrible track record & 30+ years old which seems to be Chuck’s wheelhouse. The Flyers aren’t exactly an organization at both the executive level & coaching level that seemingly offer up good solutions in to creating possession & suppressing shots/chances so you’re not really getting any help there either.

I was more positive about this off-season than most on here, but their second or even 1B need was backup goaltender. They needed to hit it out of the park. And this is not it.
As far as I’m concerned, we still have a hole at BUG
