Flyers "Flight Plan": Behind the Scenes Draft Video

It did get pretty confusing at times. I saw a video about the Sabres' draft a few days ago and it was much more in-depth. I was a little disappointed with the Flyers' video.

I just saw the sabres one. What are you talking about? The flyers one was much more in depth and you actually saw player comparison. I thought the flyers one revealed more than Id ever expect.

I dislike the demeanor of the director of scouting and he dresses like its his Saturday off.

I'm really surprised how high they had Morin. But when you hear them talk about upside it does make sense. Thanks for posting.

It was good to see they felt as good about Sam as I did. Glad they still love the heart and soul guys with talent like I do:). If you want to be a True Flyer you need that in your make up or it sure helps. And they had Hagg as a late 1st rounder. I liked the show.

My mistake. I was thinking about a St Louis Blues one from a few years ago that i saw the other day. Ours was definitely more in depth than the Sabres one.

Yeah, the Flyers don't seem high on Pulock whatsoever.
I think he is the guy at 17.

Interesting they had Shinkaruk at #22 when even though he went #24 overall, he was thought of a steal at that point. Obviously more than one team didn't have him as high as thought.

Of course, that's why he slid. If more teams had him higher, he would not have fallen. However, this does not change the fact that per consensus lists (publicized), he was ranked an average of 10 spots higher. Remains to be seen if the team lists were more accurate, or the consensus.

PHI really seemed to covet upside with their list, and not so much polish or even production. It was more about who would develop long term. Morin was a very good gamble in this regard.

Yea let’s face it when you are buying these kids outside the first handful of players you are purchasing what "you hope and pray they will become" not what they already are.

This video is great because it shows about what I expected a war room to be like. Lots of back and forth and you need the conflict for it to work. Politics is also in play as it appears some voices have more say and one would assume that is due to merit? I wonder if Holmgren stayed out of the room by design? Pronger was a bit quite in the video.

Can't believe how much info they released about their final rankings. Interesting. And this video gives you great insight how things can "snowball" on a certain player. A pocket of a team's scouts likes him and it starts to spread. Probably a reason why many guys end up getting picked higher than they should.

Interesting to see Gauthier ranked a bit higher on another team's list than where he was picked. Hopefully a few more teams are able to release behind the scenes stuff

Same can be said for a guy like Mueller. I knew the Flyers liked him, but he's ranked a good 10 spots ahead of where he ended up going.

I wish teams would do more stuff like this during the draft like St. Louis did. It's interesting to hear what they think of another dream drafting a certain player.

Just surprising to see a team commit to d like that, and drop monahan so far. Time will tell of course, and maybe in the back of their mind they don't think monahan will be there anyway? If monahan had dropped that far and they had taken mueller? I'm sure mueller has a shot but I would've been pretty upset but no one pays me to make these calls. Zadorov at 8 is interesting, I was wondering what teams thought of him. I liked what I saw of him.

100% agree with the snowball effect. One of the problems is segmentation of scouts into regions with "some" overlap. That could lead to some very interesting pitch battles when it comes to weighting of prospects between regions. you can see how the director of this department and the individual scouts could make or break your organization.

According to phillie draft staff they have theyre doubts on Nurse. So in theyre mind Edmonton missed on draft again

Sounds like Paul H was high on Monahan but the scouts dropped him because he is very much like Couts.

They were high on D (obviously)
