I didn't watch it and I would take less than nothing from it. That's my analysis.
Yeah, like always with these type of games, lol.
I mean it’s fun to watch the kids, how they are moving and so forth. But we read a lot into how kids “performed” like it mattered how the players ranked in the three stars of the night column.
My brief impression on a few topics that stands out a bit.
First of all, I think we are underselling Cuyle a bit. Poor mans Barron, Lemieux type and so forth. The kid is physically really strong — and — has a very well rounded game. He is of course really young and what not, but he got a really well rounded game and definitely has potential to become a solid top 9 in the NHL.
Barron stepped up as the game progressed and played a much better center icemen game than I’ve seen from him in the past. He was smart, strong on the puck and made the small plays enabling him to get involved. I don’t like the classic ‘size at center’ guys in light of how the game is looking, but he played really well. Don’t mind him playing in the AHL some more, but he looked good.
Schneider impressed with his offensive game. He wasn’t really tested defensively, but his play offensively definitely stood out. The NHL game is awfully fast and you have no marginals. I am not sure if he is ready for the NHL defensively. Not because he couldn’t make many really good defensive plays, just because he might still be at a level where the positioning, consistency, and so forth needs some more maturing.
Lundkvist was definitely chasing it tonight, but no biggie from my POV. He also didn’t play much and seemed to be away for a long stretch in the 1st for repairs.
I love Jones. Think that he is NHL ready basically. But…I think that perhaps his type will have a harder time to find a position in this league. It’s not a matter if he can eat minutes and not hurt his team, but with someone like him dressed — do you get an edge?
Henriksson is so smart. It’s in games like this you miss all metrics, first guy back behind his own net, he was on the puck. Plays turn and he is first guy on the puck behind the net in the attacking zone.
But with both Henriksson and Lundkvist, in games like this there is no time with the puck. Much of the game of hockey is about creating time and space for each other. Since NHLers are better at that you basically get more time with the puck not less. They will progress when the game get more organized. Buch was the same. He was 100% a bust after his first Traverse then made the team out of Camp.
