Rempe hasn't been a big fighter to this point in his career. If he makes that part of his game I guess he has a slightly better chance of ever making it.

I didn’t catch the game, but at this level - be it Traverse, WJC or an exhibition game - people constantly underestimate the different levels of physical development. You have fully grown men going up against children.

Are these games the perfect litmus test for future success? No. But it’s a high level of play and it doesn’t matter how skilled our 18 year old prospects are. If it’s their first time playing a 22-23 year old that looks like Clark Kent (*cough* Morgan Barron *cough*) it’s going to be an adjustment.

People would be wise to remember this when they watch Othmann. He was a tweener in a men’s league this past year. He’s probably going to play like a tweener against a group of more skilled players, many of whom are already men. It’s unrealistic to expect much more from him at this stage.
 
Absolutely pathetic stream quality. It's shit like this that I really feel this team does not deserve the fanbase it has and explains why they have another cup drought going. Totally unacceptable for the New York Rangers in 2021.

Eh, we are in such a tiny fraction of a minority of obsessed fans that care about a scrimmage like this lol. I feel like people are overdramatic

It’s a prospect game. I understand the Rangers could and should do better (I mean how does Arizona have a game broadcast with commentators and fans and we don’t ??) but this is a massive overreaction to a game that doesn’t matter

Yeah. I read the thread a bit before watching and was expecting to see the inside of a guy’s pocket. It was hard to get any perspective from the angle they provided but otherwise it was fine.
I agree - you’d think a few hockey nerds would love to make it a project and would do a great job for the cost of a few pizzas. But, hey, it’s way better than nothing.

Yeah, it is hyperbole on purpose. Fair enough. But you did make my point exactly. Why the hell can I watch the San Jose Sharks Teal vs White game in broadcast quality, but the Rangers can't even provide a proper viewing angle for a prospects game with another organization?

On top of that, our beat doesn't even go to the camp beside Vince? Crazy. AK provides more prospect info for the fans than the organization itself. Haha.

I just don't buy the, "No one even cares", argument anymore. Other teams in smaller markets are not only providing streams of all this stuff, some even sell f***ing tickets.

@Amazing Kreiderman mentioned this before but it’s because NYR don’t necessarily have to cater to fans because they’re the biggest org in the league along with the Leafs. Coyotes/Sharks need fans which is why they bend their backs for them. Although I’m pretty sure the Leafs had a normal broadcast with commentators for their prospect game

OnHockey.tv+various other streaming platforms. Swiss league isn’t hard to watch

Also I work in hockey. This year was tough to keep up with the draft but I had a personal top 45, Othmann was no where near it. I did watch him in the Swiss league. Not 30+ times, but enough to gauge the player. Read my comments earlier on him. Tries to be something he’s not, predictable shot that will go right past low tier goalies but won’t work in the NHL, bad skater, and too complimentary. He insists on playing like a powerforward but it just doesn’t work for him, he gets outmuscled easily and doesn’t have a frame to grow into to play like he wants. I’m big into fitness as well and just don’t see his frame/strength being there unlike someone like Kakko who I said years ago will have a massive frame, unfortunately, some players have limitations. You can bookmark this, I really believe Othmann will bust/disappoint. He doesn’t have a translatable NHL toolkit and I have a hard time seeing a role for him to fill at the NHL level. His defensive game isn’t good enough for bottom 6 as he cherry picks often but I will say when he wants to be good defensively he is, the stick work and aggression is there, but his aggression feels fabricated and unnatural. I’m not saying I’m 100% correct on this and this will how his career will go, but after watching him this is just what I see. And his two awful penalties today is exactly what I expected out of him, he doesn’t know how to be a powerforward, he lacks that instinct, and that leads to dumb plays/penalties. He will be a dominant CHL player and that’s when we should sell high on him in a package deal ideally. As I said before, he’s the type of player bad teams get tricked into drafting

I'm certainly not being a negative nancy but this franchise probably has the absolute worst record in prospect tournament and scrimmages. In the last 10+ years I can't recall a 50%+ win rate or higher than like a 4th place finish at Traverse.
