You did well.

I was hoping this pick passed the Tripod test . There were other fallers and risers in the mix that I dont want to say but Chytil fits organizational needs while also being one of the BPA.

Garth Snow drags his shoddy American oxfords to the stage as a tumbleweed passes the United Center's official draft board.

In weeks prior the Islanders' general manager convinced himself the 2017 draft was not nearly so impotent as the media portrayed, but after just watching his favored prospects at 46 go down like tin cans in an alley, and surveying the remaining desolation, Snow could no longer maintain that delusion. An already dejected Snow stares from the podium into an endless sea of drunk, fat, hostile Chicagoans with bad bratwurst breath bellowing their worst. "It's nice to be in front of fans," he thinks.

And with the 46th pick in the 2017 Fake Draft, the Islanders select Robin Salo, defenseman, Sport, (Liiga).

I was hoping he`d fall to 54.

He's not of the guys I expected to be among the two still left on my short list, but a skilled RHD who was a little less visible due to playing in a lower league makes him a great value as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather gamble on skill than anything else.

With the 47th pick in the 2017 Mock Draft, the Nashville Predators are proud to select from Spruce Grove of the AJHL, RHD Ian Mitchell.

Will PM next.

Salo's wide turns and somewhat rough looking agility scare me, as does his WJC snub, but in this draft there weren't any other options I loved left at 46. He still has a pretty impressive overall resume and isn't slow, so the hope is he follows a Lindblom-esque path and with a little technique improvement people will look back on his skating as a greatly overblown issue.

This exercise has really made the thinness of this draft hit home, though.

In looking at my notes, I have 3 names left before I'd rather take a chance on guys who would be pushing into the mid-late 3rd and lower in consensus rankings. It does feel like that drop is a little earlier this year than usual.

I think in real life it is going to be all about just getting the right guy and avoiding the wrong ones - same as it ever was. Hopefully our boys have seen something other scouts haven't and Hexy can weave through the big board like Jamiroquai.

It got sparse QUICK. I definitely considered a few guys ranked worse than 100 by some publications. I have to think the actual draft will be all over the map beginning midway through round 2 for this very reason.

"Good morning. To make this second-round selection for the Ottawa Senators, I would like to introduce, from Laurie Boschman Middle School, 12-year-old Jimmy Baker. Jimmy was recently named the finalist in the Ontario Fitness Challenge for his age category. Jimmy?"

"Thank you, Mr. Melnyk. The Ottawa Senators select, with the 48th overall draft pick, from the Prince George Cougars, Nikita Poppo-, Kinita Pooper- "

"Just take your time, Jimmy."

"Ni-ki-ta Pop-u-gay-ev."

"Thank you, Jimmy. Big round of applause for this fine, healthy, young boy. As the next team comes forward, Jimmy will be taken backstage, where a team of surgeons is waiting to harvest his organs for my personal use."

"Wait, what?"

Really good pick. He's a steady defenseman with very smooth skating but he is being overshadowed by Makar.

[sidenote - one of my friends is the play-by-play guy for the Spruce Grove Saints so I've had a bit of an inside track on this kid for a while]

Oh man another great post, but not a great pick. Pop is going to bust worst than Virtanen.

This took a turn for the dark in a hurry

As for Popugayev. I actually considered him at 44 for the Flyers, but I just didn't think he would be someone Hextall would pick. Still, he is a behemoth and has good hands. Hopefully he stays in NA next season.

Thanks, all. Being the husband of an organ transplant recipient, I have a bit of an issue with Mr. Melnyk's much-publicized search for a liver.

I figured he would be a reach, but in the second round I thought he would be worth the try. I saw him as high as first round (22nd pick). I'm just going on online scouting reports, so if you've seen him live, I will defer to your judgement.

The best comparable that I can come up with is Pavel Brendl. All the tools in the toolbox, and absolutely zero ****s to give.

The MJ fans that I ran into hated him, and were stoked to see him get traded. PG fans were excited to acquire him, but then soured within weeks. We all could be completely wrong - maybe he just needs to jump up a level and elevate his game (Ryan Getzlaf did the same thing - lazy in his last year of junior then came alive in the NHL), but I think Pop is likely to get an ELC, lazy his way through it, then sign a big contract in Europe where he can play his lazy game and cash big paycheques.

Nothing wrong with swinging for a home-run in the 2nd round

Playing it safe is how teams end up drafting Kevin Marshall over P.K. Subban

Personally, he feels more bust than potential home run to me. Tangential, but I think the term boom/bust gets overused. I think that term is best used for players who you don't know how they'll adjust to small ice or who need physical development (or are too small) or who need to mature their game or who play in more difficult leagues to gauge. But if you're just not a good hockey player and can't think the game well, let alone have character concerns, is there really any boom?

Been saying for awhile I'm not sure how deep the "consensus" 2nd goes before I would start reaching on guys I could get later, or just trade down/up. I only have a few names myself left that I'm high on in that range left on our board. Although I'm quite sure there will be guys still available that we have off the board already......also that there will be some NOT available as they likely go higher. Flyers pick should be fine at least, though I know where you stand on trading up.

FWIW, Mitchell is one of like 2 d-men outside my top 31 that I'd feel comfortable drafting in the early-mid 2nd.

I agree with this. I can't tell whether it's simply that I'm paying more attention recently or if there is actually a trend, but it seems to me that outside the first two rounds, teams are generally just picking who they want than paying attention to BPA or league consensus.

This draft in particular... after the first 25, I feel as though there is a block of about 50 players that could go in any order. Walk up to the podium and go with what you feel. So far in this mock, nobody has gone so far off the board as to surprise me.

Steve Yzerman is still unconscious, and I'm beginning to worry........but with the 49th pick in the 2017 NHL draft, Tampa selects from Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League, Morgan Frost. But seriously, should we call an ambulance?

Button had Popugaev #67 on his last list which was on March 21st. I'm kind of curious to see if he drops him some more on his next list. He's taken a hard line stance on him just like Virtanen at #43 on his final list in 2014.
