I don't get this Kosorenkov thing at all.

He was clearly better than several of the prospects in camp.

Every game I saw he did some good things and was highly noticeable. What did they want a 19 year old to do, score a hat trick against NHL players?

I don't get this. I just don't. Why keep him so long then and have him attend all the camps and put on the charade? You can't tell me they didn't have a good idea before he even attended the July camp that they wanted to sign him or not. No way playing against NHL players in a single game or two changed that. And he played pretty well too to seal the deal seemingly. Pretty WTF.

They must have decided that he wasn't worth one of the 50 roster spots given the forwards they already have drafted but haven't signed yet.

Kase, Marody
Allison, Twarynski, Laczysnki, Salinitri
Strome, Sushko, Cates, Lycksell

Maybe Twarynski will be signed before he gets cut.

With the amount of incoming talent that we drafted I can get saving a contract spot if Kosorenkov didn't blow them away. It's likely they don't think of him as anything more than a bottom 6er and we have a huge surplus of those players. I totally understand saving the contract spot if that was their thinking even though he did impress when I saw him.

yeah, its not like this team is void of forward prospects. would of been nice to get a kid signed for free. But given the forward prospect depth I am not going to get to worked up over it. Wish the kid luck going forward.

They have the roster spots, and I imagine they're losing some contracts after this year. I think they're not signing Salinitri or at least don't plan to. They sent him down earlier than anyone in his class. Guys like Strome, Sushko (who it's still too early to think about) are a year further off. Cates could be 3-4 years away. Lycksell too. Again, they had the room and he outclassed some of the prospects we already have, including someone signed to an ELC who probably doesn't deserve one right now. It's not end of the world, but if you believe in lottery tickets, he seemed like a decent one. It's more confusing than anything because I don't know what else they wanted him to do this camp.

Twarynski does seem to be getting signed. And if he's in AHL camp, guess that implies he is actually going to the AHL this year. I don't know what the rush is. He didn't look out of place, but he basically didn't do a single thing with the puck. He just hit some people and forechecked. Where is the room for him on the Phantoms when last year you had much better, older players like NAK and Fazleev as 4th liners/scratches?

Lots of Flyers stuff in the latest 31 thoughts.

15. Finally on Philadelphia, Hakstol talked about some of the pre-season battles. He likes Scott Laughton’s mentality early, then added, “Somebody — or a couple of guys — are going to have to adjust to a different role if Nolan Patrick proves ready to be here. If he’s going to make this team, we’ve decided he makes it as a centre.” So no hiding him on the wing to start his NHL career.

How has Elliott and the young D looked? Do you guys forsee him getting most of the starts and the young defenseman able to keep high % scoring chances to a minimum? It's a thinly veiled fantasy question but I'm also genuinely curious

Elliott has yet to play. The young D has been pretty good. Morin and Hagg look (as of right now) to be locks for the upcoming season and Sanheim looked much better in the last game than the previous two.

They may be close to a numbers crunch, Kosorenkov was facing a lot of competition in the AHL next year, especially if they know if some of the college kids are thinking about turning pro next year.

When you start looking at the NHL and AHL rosters going forward, Hextall might have felt that he didn't show enough to be out players that would be here next year.

is there anything that would prevent them from making an ELC in a couple weeks if they were to say move Leier for a draft pick and they have a contract slot open up?

I was hoping they kept him just to have that extra chance of a guy hitting it. But he has passed thru 2 drafts and 2 summers now without a contract.

That must be it, since they do have the contract space as LOD said.

If they just sign Kase, this could be the top 13 Phantoms forwards to start next season.

Varone-Vorobyev-Aube-Kubel
Carey-Rubtsov-Kase
Bunnaman-Knight-Conner/Laberge
Twarysnki-Fazleev-Bardreau

And that's assuming Vecchione is on the Flyers, Salinitri isn't signed, Martel is let go, and Marody, Allison, and Lazcynski remain in college.
