I wouldn't become too frighetened at this point that the team has a dysfunctional pressure in winning games. They have hickups and they are struggling for sure. But that should be expected from implementing so many new players into the lineup. They will strengthen the core with no question but it requires chemistry, especially when the coaching strategy is: "Do your best at what you're good at and show that you mean it."

It doesn't matter where NYR ends up in the playoff lottery, the east is a slaughter anyway. All teams are really strong. All that matters is that the new team fires at all cylinders when the playoff comes.

It doesn't even matter if Shesty has had enough of this shit, he just has a normal Lundqvist season. You can't dominate 100% of all games. He might lose the Hart or a Vezina, so what? Just another Lundqvist season. He will be a top 3 guaranteed, just like Lundqvist. We know his value. He's a beast given no room to breathe. And he'll probably win the Vezina regardless, he's that good.

These playoffs will be very interesting and I really don't care about the single results in games about now, I only care about the trends. Whoever NYR will face and if they have home ice or not doesn't matter. What matters is the roof of the chemistry of the new squad until then.

That Nemeth pairing has been terrible for a couple of games though. Please just remove Nemeth from a playoff team and I'm saying that as a Swede. I just don't see the grandeur in making your best at failing what you tried to do. Put in a skilled whatever defenseman, NYR has a bunch of them FFS. Schneider, Jones, Robertson, Lundkvist, whatever is better because they're already more skilled and will gain the experience to develop. I'm perfectly fine with having a pup as a question mark on the team instead of a veteran.

The shootout selections by some coaches just proves if they weren't a NHL coach per se, they would be as bad as some drunk pretzel munching moron in a Del Zotto jersey at the garden asking for the team to put Phillip Cheedle out for the shootout.

I kid you not, on the way out last night I heard this guy talking to his buddy "who was that second guy they put out, Paahnaahrin? Right, then why'd Cheedle come out next?!?" And his buddy was embarrassed and quietly mumbled 'coaches decision'

100%. You can outshoot and outplay your opponent in the playoffs, fighting tooth and nail for inch and every point shot in the o zone, but give up a couple breakaway or odd man rushes and you can quickly see a series lose hope.

The Isles were masters at that, bend don’t break, wait for your opponent to get frustrated and press and then wham, you get a breakaway or odd man rush and take the game from your opponent. We need to really clean this up before the playoffs begin.

Based on Gallant's recent maneuvers, it appears he's leaning toward keep Copp and Panarin together.

The numbers support that decision.

In 73:07 time on ice together at five-on-five, Copp and Panarin have out-scored opponents, 4-1. They've also out-shot them by a wide margin, 42-23, while generating 16 high-danger scoring chances and allowing only six. The result has been an excellent 72.32% xGF, according to Natural Stat Trick.

They need a competent 3rd player on that line. Does Panarin's game change if it's Strome as the 3rd? hopefully not. Kakko makes the most sense.

I think being with Strome takes Panarin out of his natural tendency to focus the offense on himself.

In saying that, I'm not implying that Panarin is selfish or a bad teammate. First of all, every single player with that level of talent should have that kind of initiative. Also, I think we see quite the opposite effect. He knows Strome is creative also and he wants to include him. Strome is having the same effect. He wants to do his thing but at the same time it's like "oh, that's Artemi Panarin, he needs the puck." The natural conclusion of that is always going to be them passing to each other back and forth while accomplishing nothing. Sometimes it results in very nice goals which is why the Rangers like it, but it mostly results in nothing hockey.

Instead of sticking to his game, Panarin seems like he's always playing along the lines of "what's my next move towards getting the puck to Strome?" It really takes him out of his defense and forecheck routine.

This is most evident in the zone entries. Last night, Panarin was beating the first man 1v1 (something he's the best in the league at), potentially drawing a slide, and taking it deep where he has three guys to pass to once the rush catches up to him. Most of the season, he's been crossing the line, stopping, and looking for Strome immediately while beating nobody.

I think part of the problem is he gets into the zone before everyone else and then pulls up and waits. It worked last night slowing down so Copp can crash the net, but lately a lot of those passes aren't getting through.
