Panarin’s little excited run after the Copp goal was so cute

I do agree that the Flyers were very threatening when they did have the puck but I also tend to think that odd-man-rush chances are more anxiety-inducing than they deserve, statistically. Between 75 and 85% of them don't result in a goal.Quite a few shots off the posts and crossbar; Martin Jones outplayed Igor Shesterkin; our powerplay came up goose eggs... those are variances that you could safely expect to swing the other way for you. OTOH, I don't think that our shot totals or chances for/against numbers were necessarily indicative of a dominant performance. The Flyers had very few shots through the first two periods, but the shots they had were in large part odd man rushes and breakaways.
They weren't playing down, but if they played the way they did against a good team, they'd get wrecked. The Braun-Nemeth pairing for instance did pretty well by the numbers, but I didn't see them manage a single clean pass between the two of them the entire game. They faced the bottom of the Flyers lineup which shouldn't threaten anyone, so yes, the chances against were low, but those two were definitely dragging down the offense significantly. They end up positive in the ledger, but a deeper more competitive opponent would've taken advantage of that pair, the way they played last night.
There has been one loud voice about not being able to beat playoff teams... and that was squashed months ago.Have we?
I seem to recall folks complaining that we can't beat playoff teams. Until we could. Variance remains undefeated.
Now we can't beat bad teams.
If you're that worried how we play against "bad teams," I got news for you: they're ain't gonna be any soon.

You need to watch the rest of the league more (and it's not just you). There has been one loud voice about not being able to beat playoff teams... and that was squashed months ago.
I question the teams 'cockiness' or over-confidence. It has happened frequently up 2-0. They stop competing. IMO a part of it is vocal leadership. We still do not have it.
I watch more hockey than I care to admit and it's why I have the opinion I have. You need to watch the rest of the league more (and it's not just you).
All the shit we complain about happens to every team.
Everyone loses games to bad teams. Everyone blows 2-0 leads. Playing "the whole 60 minutes" isn't real.
I've never heard the saying "it's the most dangerous lead in hockey...if you're the Rangers."
I wouldn't worry about it. It's just a bad matchup for us.
We faced a tight formation last night and broke them down with a tip goal and a rebound goal. We can do it.
It’s still Zibanejad for me. He’s the only dude on the team who can rip slappers from the top of the circle that go in fairly consistently. Vatrano’s release is sneakier for sure. But I’m willing to bet Zib’s shot is harder/faster if we timed both.Vatrano has one of the best releases/shots I can remember... maybe since Gaborik? He puts a lot more on it than Gaborik though
Then you were surely watching when the best team in the East fell behind 6-2 to the Devils?I watch more hockey than I care to admit and it's why I have the opinion I have.
Positive Machinehead lasts as long as our strong play doesI like positive Machinehead.
What does that have to do with what I'm talking about? You preach 'don't look into one game' and are using one game as a basis for what? Then you were surely watching when the best team in the East fell behind 6-2 to the Devils?
And then the Devils blew a 4 goal lead?
I'm using examples of wider trends. You're propping up a great game where we got unlucky as an example of all the things you decided you don't like because you're mad we lost. What does that have to do with what I'm talking about? You preach 'don't look into one game' and are using one game as a basis for what?
Like I've said, it's human nature. Playing down to your opponent is a real thing. You are the one who opined it didn't exist in the NHL.
How many 2-0 leads have Florida relinquished? Florida's style and attack is consistent. Every team has 'off games'. The dichotomy of our play-style is way more pronounced. We go from 'world beaters' playing the right way to pond hockey east/west floaters.

Thank you, Tob.The shootout selections by some coaches just proves if they weren't a NHL coach per se, they would be as bad as some drunk pretzel munching moron in a Del Zotto jersey asking for the team to put Phillip Cheedle out for the shootout.
I'm not talking about one game but a trend that's been there all season and arguably with this core for years.I'm using examples of wider trends. You're propping up a great game where we got unlucky as an example of all the things you decided you don't like because you're mad we lost.
There's a difference.
What's the trend? That we "play down" (e.g. have 46 shots?) to competition?I'm not talking about one game but a trend that's been there all season and arguably with this core for years.
I'm not anywhere close to mad... have no clue where you come up with these things.
The officiating is part of the whole "nobody is really bad" shtick. They want games to be close.
The NHL got on this massive trip after that lockout that extreme parity is the way to go and sports fans want everything to be close all the time.
Personally, I want quite the opposite. I want gods throwing mountains at each other like in the f***ing Iliad. If it's the not the Rangers, I absolutely want Tampa back in the Finals again.
