Should the NHL have the Panthers and Leafs redo their series in case it was a big fluke?
No disrespect to the Panthers, I'm a firm believer that Florida beating them in 5 is a huge fluke and robs the Leafs of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the Leafs play great hockey it's just not fair.
If the Leafs lose again I will face that the Panthers deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Leafs and the NHL.
Best of 7 not good enough? Denial is a river in egypt

Congrats to the Panthers and their fans. Florida played with heart and determination. Clearly the better team. Good luck for the rest of the playoffs.

It wasn't though.

The series was decided by Florida winning 4 games and the Leafs only 1.

It was decided by the Leafs going 0-3 at home.

It was decided by JT, Matthews and Marner not showing up.

It was decided by Dubas decision to not get a proper starting goalie.

What it wasn't decided on was by one singular play that really had no effect on the outcome of said play at all. But I get it, it’s easier to accept as a Leafs fan if there is an imagined excuse instead of having to look in the mirror.
I'm not a Leafs fan and it's a bizarre take that holding the stick of the closest defender to the puck carrier, denying him the ability to deflect the game-winning shot in overtime, had any effect on the play

Florida definitely should've swept. Outplayed the Leafs in a lot of key areas, exposed how awful Matthews and Tavares are in the playoffs (yet again), and forced the Leafs into a battle of physicality. btw, this series is why I think the cats were smart enough to trade for Bennett and Reinhart. Two guys who deserve way more love and helped the Panthers get past both Boston and Toronto.

congrats florida

lots of interesting decisions need to be made in toronto now.

Yeah but just like every other year, they’ll make none of them and run it back screaming “THIS IS OUR YEAR” how can anyone take pride in rooting for an awful team with a fan base like theirs

Can we stop to celebrate that not only did Toronto lose again, but the Florida draft pick that Habs fans thought would be a lottery pick is now pick #29-32? It's rare that the Habs and Leafs BOTH lose so badly at the same time, but I'm here for it.

Tavares, Matthews, Marner = a shocking waste of $30+ million dollars. They deserve to shoulder this blame from their ghostly performance.
So its a win win for Sens fans lmao

Kyle Dubas throwing a temper tantrum on the No Goal tells you all you need to know. The dude is not equipped to be the GM of a team that is going to win the Stanley Cup. He folded like a wet napkin to the idea that you "have" to get a player like John Tavares when he comes-a-calling, and then got taken to the cleaners in RFA negotiations with his young forwards. The reason the Leafs keep losing is because of his poor roster construction. The fact that this guy seems to have unlimited chances is honestly crazy to me.
Been saying this for years and just get called “a hater”. Dubas is a dork. The guys have no respect for him and bend him over backwards when it comes time to talk contract. Matthews signing a deal that bought zero UFA years and made him the second highest player in the league as a f***ing 20 year old basically said everything it needed to. But Kyle is a good ol Ontario boy!!!

Get rid of Matthews and our entire D. Only thing I will ever remember about this series is not being able to get the puck out of our zone if their life depended on it.

I've been an ardent "run it back" guy for a long time but now I'm not only ok with trading Matthews before July 1, I'll be unhappy if we don't.

Wish him the best and I've been a big fan of his but his time in Toronto needs to be over.

He can go chill on the beach in LA, coast through the season scoring 40-50 a year, not give two shits about winning cups and idk, release his inevitable fashion line.

Some people just don't have it. Guy plays an elimination playoff game at home like it's game 58 of the regular season in San Jose.
Matthews reminds me of Jimmy Carson's approach to the game. It was just a means to an end for life after hockey.

You keep using the term shutout to describe literally 1/3 of the hockey game. How on earth are you this delusional?

I said Samsonov was rocking shutout until he got injured, which is absolutely true.

When you allow 0 goals, you shutout the other team. I'm not sure which part of that is confusing you?

Then, he got injured and the other goalie allowed 3 goals... but that has no bearing on Samsonov allowing 0 goals in his 20+ mins of play in Game 3 prior to his injury. Samsonov allowed no goals on 8 shots in the same game Woll allowed 3 goals on 21 shots (1 goal per 7 shots).

It’s 20 minutes. It’s completely ridiculous to assume that will just continue. Bob didn’t give up a goal for the first 30ish minutes last night. Still gave up 2.

Well, he was playing well before his injury. I don't know if he shuts them out, but I also don't know if he allows 3 on the next 21 shots.

Losing your starting goalie is probably the biggest loss to any team in the playoffs.

Yes cause that's the reason they lost.
Just like in 1993! I hope they tell us about that one again! That never gets old!

I know people like to say that, but Florida didn't win this series because Tkachuk or Barkov outplayed Matthews and Marner. The Leafs core outplayed the Florida core just as they did the Tampa core the round earlier, however the Florida depth players significantly outplayed the Leafs depth.

I also don't think Samsonov allows that OT winner in Game 3 as it was a bad goal, or the weak Ekblad goal in Game 5.
