Flint Firebirds 2022-23 Off-Season Thread

It’s a good thing Dent didn’t sell at the deadline. The Firebirds would be losing every game and what would you do with 12-15 more picks in the first 4-5 rounds or a bunch of picks and another ‘05 or two?

What's going on with our goaltending? This is unacceptable. 19 GA last three games. Are U kidding me?

It's not just the goaltending. Just watching the demeanor of the boys it seems like the coach is losing or has lost the team. The real question is, will he own the fact that a lot of where the team is right now is on him? If he doesn't, well, it's going to be a long couple of months.

I was just thinking that it's the absolute pinnacle of irony that the Flint fanbase (rightly) wants Rolf to fire a coach. What a difference a few years makes.

I’d be willing to give Dent the coach a little more rope if Dent the GM hadn’t been so absolutely atrocious over the last 14 months.

Yeah. I agree. It looks like they know he’s kind of screwed them. Either sell. Give some kids a real shot at a title and other kids more ice time to develop or go get them the help they need to compete. He did neither and wasted an atrocious amount of assets along the way. I’m not a fan of Cranley. I’ve said as much since the day he was traded. He’s not the worst starter they’ve had but he’s not gonna steal you many games. He just lets in too many back breaking routine saves. Day is young. His fundamentals are better but once 2 of 3 get by him he really starts to struggle. It was a bit of the same when Cavallin was 17. It’s just as much team defense though. Forwards, D, positioning, structure, hustle, all of it. Ethan Hay might be one of my favorite Firebirds ever. He’s been incredible as a defensive forward for his age but over the last 3-4 games even he has failed to recognize and pick up the goal scorer. I’d have to rewatch to be sure all of them were his assignment but a couple definetly were. I honestly think it’s about to get bad and I think they’re gonna get dusted in round one. It is what it is now and there’s no going back so all I can hope is they find a way to turn it around and find a way into round 2 to at least get the kids more playoff experience.

How does what you are saying even make sense? London's GM made a huge mistake and waived the wrong import and Flint's GM made a huge mistake with a big overpay for a bust player (Rowe)? And both transactions went down at exactly the same time? Might want to reconsider your stance. Or not. Up to you.

Never mentioned anything about Rowe.

London had 3 imports and were going to lose 1 for nothing, but Flint paid 2 solid picks for someone they could have signed as a FA Import.

Goaltending has been very shaky but team has allowed alot of shots on the Goalies. Lacklustre D play especially on the PP.

Team is tied for 3rd in Goals For in the League. They score. They just need to stop shots and goals.

They should be able to pull that off at least. Even with an as-is roster with just the addition of Dann they SHOULD be capable of getting 5-6-7 wins there. I’m guessing 4-2 with one EN against though.

I am still gobsmacked that Flint didn't do anything else at the trade deadline. Depending on the conditions on the Pitre trade, it's possible Flint has 23 picks in the upcoming draft. And that's with no 15th rounder lol! What the heck are they going to do with all those picks?

It’s been complete mismanagement by Dent all year long. He made moves to set himself up to go big at the deadline then WAY overpaid for a kid with 6 goals. Now what a sane GM would do with those picks is package a couple to move up a spot this year and then take a couple and trade them further down the road for additional picks. So like 2023 4th and 5th for a 2023 3rd or whatever then move 2023 3rd for a 2027 2nd and a 2023 8th for a 2024 7th type stuff. He’s shown no ability to develop a coherent strategy on anything off ice though. Branch and Burnett and Birch and Stefan and Wellwood could recruit too though. Not only am I concerned with WHO Dent will draft but whether or not he has the ability to convince them to report.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct and a Game Misc.? He said something. Probably to another player. I got an idea. It’s probsbly the Ryan Moore suspension repeating itself. They must have really good acoustics on ice at the GFL (why is nobody calling it the Dumpster?) because the refs can hear everything there.
