Lombardi or Hayes. Would really like to see Hayes, a local Michigan kid wear it.
Kressler. I don’t know the room and don’t have the little inside connections anymore to say but judging from what I can see? He’s gotta be near the top of the candidates list.

To have a return that poor for a player of Othmann's caliber & him not be hurt or underperforming says all u need to know.

Even if Van Volsen is added later he should've fetched three 2nds, multiple 3rds.

I've yet to see @OHL4Life get something wrong this year. Obviously sucks I'm sure, especially as a FLT fan he was a terrific player, but clearly he has things he needs to work on off the ice.
You guys have a female trainer on your bench right? Can you imagine if he hit her or it deflected into her face or head and blew her up? The OHL watching video of some girl bleeding out over that BS? He’d be gone for 30 games. Plus….we were discussing it last night as OHL4Life was breaking the news….we haven’t really seen him be “clutch” very often if at all. Like oh say, in alone in OT during Western Conf Final Gsme 6 OT where he missed the net. He blows those chances when the game is on the line a bit. If he gets right he’s probably the most potent forward in the league but man….you could see from him all the time and it was trending from tolerable edge/attitude/pest to ridiculous. The puck in the bench bit soured me quick.

I second Kressler. He seems like a good fit for the C. I could see Piercey too. He seems to go out and take Brennan’s spot talking to the officials when Othmann’s been in the box. (or suspended)

Lot of hearsay here with absolutely nothing to back it up. Sorry but you dont name him your captain if he is soooo toxic.
If you didn’t know - he is one of the more reputable posters in the OHL section with actual sources. I had heard the exact same thing for months that the relationship between Othmann and Flint was quite fractured. @OHL4Life Was a former scout in the OHL I believe so he has insider information - he may be a bit of an ass sometimes but if he says something, you listen.

Have to assume Van Volsen becomes a Firebird in the offseason and we pretend like it was a stand alone trade because 2 part trades arent allowed in the OHL
Maybe January, the Petes can move VanVolsen to bolster their roster and add a pick for the 2023 draft. If the Petes roster the rookie throughout an all-in season, they are keeping VanVolsen imo.

I guess him and Wright are quite the pair. Wonder what they were like in the dressing room back on their draft season.

if they didn’t do it now half the team may not have shown up for the next game, it was toxic.

they don’t want an 06, they are getting guryev and picks, picks to to traded for an older player
That’s weird most of the team posted on Instagram they’re gonna miss him

Well, Brennan made his debut for the Pete’s tonight in Saginaw. No points, -3 and twice that I saw, it was the RD that scored that was technically his guy.

What I find weird is the fact that people nowhere near an OHL dressing room know everything that is going on inside the room? Spy? :naughty:
People who use to work for teams build networks during their time. Know agents who talk to players etc. it’s not that weird. Some just choose to share what info they get while most don’t bother to visit forums like this.

Just thinking out loud, but maybe Flint wanted a physical d man that they so deerly needed and the other teams didnt offer any. I dont believe there are much d men that could fit a top physical presence as Guryev out there that would be offered.

For Flint to trade a top offensive player like Othmann, it would seem apparent that he either couldnt deal with the team anymore and wanted out or the team wanted him out as he may have been the problem.

I think its a bit of both on why he was traded. Yes Flint and OHL teams do have issues that normal fans dont see, but judging by Othmann's past, I can see that he may have been a handful.

For the return, a physical defenseman yes. But only 45 games in the last two years. You can be physical if you can't stay on the ice.....

To give up the caliber of player for what was returned to us is a total disgrace. Regardless if you believe the BS that people are spreading.

You do find it somewhat weird though? I just find it strange that one of the top players in the league gets traded and all of a sudden, he is the devil. Horns and all.

I'd bet there are countless number of players that have attitude issues but either aren't high profile or aren't moved so we never hear about it, nor do we really care. This was just a infrequent situation where a high end player gets moved when, normally, they wouldn't be expected to be moved. As a result, people would be naturally curious as to why he was traded and those in the know decided to shed some light on things.

Now attitude issues as a teenager certainly aren't up there among egregious faults to me personally but others have decided to vilify him for it. I think most of us don't think he's some menace to society. Hopefully he takes the change of scenery and does well with it.

You may be right.

It appears in the last 2 years they were trending upwards and positively with league and fans.

Flint did really well last year and seem to have a competitive team this year with most players returning and would appear that they are going all in given that they traded for Cranley at beginning of year. So why trade your best player?

hey i wanted to make sure i wasnt being an ass when i asked the question in the ohl draft thread lol

i totally admit i can be an ass, but its almost always when a manager tells me what his plan is or an agent tells me something about his player and some fan shoots me down because the user in section 212 heard a rumour that goes against what im saying lol. i think there is a bit of a diference in quality of sources sometimes thats all :)

the only reason it lasted as long as it did was due to the off ice drama. lower end players would have been sent home or traded way quicker and woudlnt have built up long enough to be that big of an issue in the room. it was building for 6 months to a year, thats why everyone knows about it.

if it was a depth player it would have been cleaned up quicker and no one would have a clue. i bet you it happens more then you think.

Still find it hard to believe teams wash their dirty laundry to just anyone that will listen. These players are mostly teenagers. Especially now when every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to be on the Red Carpet of social media. His teammates back him up. There are always issues on every team in the league between player and coaches. The kid has talent, and most teams would love to have him on their top line IMO.

Is this Ryan Merkley all over again. Is it a coincidence they both wind up in Peterboro?

If Guryev is returned for an OA season as expected, the trade won’t look so bad. You were certainly not getting a more physical defensive defense man that the team needs more than anything imo.

You are correct, these kids pour out everything they have to possibly fulfill their dreams of maybe making it to the NHL one day. They do not deserve the disrespect or treatment that has occurred over the years since this franchise ownership moved this team to Flint.

I have yet to see anyone on here post that the Firebirds came out ahead with this Othmann trade. Like you stated Flint management chose the worst possible of deals. There WERE a number of deals and the Firebirds chose the worst option that was offered.

One final word, I want to thank Brennan Othmann for the time that he was in Flint and the vital part that he was to bring the franchise to the highest peak that it has achieved since being in Flint. Best of luck to you Brennan, I look forward to seeing you in a "Blueshirt" soon fulfilling your life long dream of being an NHLer on MSG ice. Thank you again Brennan.
