While I agree that a solid defender (especially on the right) would be really helpful, the biggest problem right now is that the top 6 only has 2 top 6 players. Our “second line” is objectively worse than our 4th line. It is terrible. These guys are supposed to be important parts of our core going forward and they are playing like plugs. As a result of these guys being the jewels of the new management, there is next to no accountability for this play. Our “second line Center” has 9 points and is -21 after 30 games! Suzuki is +1 with the same defense. Evans is -4 with d-zone starts and the same defense. There is a big fat hole in our lineup and it couldn’t be more obvious if it came in with a marching band.

You should post more often. People who are defending Dach are overlooking this bit of information right here. Excellent post. The problem with the team is on the second line, it's one of the biggest reasons why we are so bad.

Yea, if the team sport psychologist is the same guy that was being very cringe during the draft interviews on "the rebuild" show, then that would explain a lot
There's that one, but I believe he's part time. I don't know if they have a full-time one, but they should. That psycholgical work has to be integrated in practice and development, just like Adam Nicholas is integrated. They need someone who has a fighter mentality that can instill killer instinct, along with a host of other paychological tools.

I still try to be hopeful for Dach but he is getting way more opportunity than he deserves right now. He is not alone though…. Slaf is not cutting it. Newhook is not cutting it. Laine has a ton of rust. Together the second line is a disaster, and they keep being rolled out as though everything is fine.
There needs to be some accountability, and we need to find a way to put these guys in a position to succeed because it is a mess. This is literally our young forward core. The mythical accelerated rebuild. This is the sum total of what our new management has brought to the nhl and it is looking poor. Dach getting caved in every night won’t make him a better center and it won’t make us a better team.

They’re rolled out because it’s all we have.

They could bench Dach for a game or two… but honestly, the only way to really fix this is a trade or bringing up someone like Beck (which I would not do.)

A trade is probably the right way to go. Then you can dump Dvorak and move Dach to the 3rd.

This is true. For me though, the role has to change. Maybe Dach needs to move down to a lesser role for a dozen games. Play different competition. I don’t think it is only Dach either, but he definitely stands out.

Yeah, I really wouldn’t bring up anyone from Laval. Let those guys learn and excel against competition and grow as a team.
It is disappointing that we could really use the Dvorak that he was claimed to be when we got him. A trade might be the way; we are going to be at risk of a hole at center next year as it stands anyway. We can’t go in hoping to play Suzuki, Dach, Beck, Kap…. and think we will be “In the mix” for anything but more high picks.

I think they should shuffle lines more than just put Dach lower, I would go something like:

CC-Suzuki-Slaf
Laine-Evans-Anderson
Gallagher-Dach-Heineman
Armia-Newhook-Dvorak
I think I would leave Dvorak at center and Newhook at wing, but definitely would shuffle the lines. I don't thing Slaf's spot on the 1st line should be secure either.

Dach is struggling for sure but the longer he plays healthy this season, the greater the return for him, should Hughes choose to go that route … and replace him with a Quartexx client. 💀

He's getting the extended opportunity because Hughes traded for him. Post-injury issues might be holding him back, and if they could send him to the AHL(I'm unsure if they can), then he should be there for a few games.

Or, Marty could simply play him in the bottom 6, sit him occasionally and lessen his responsibilities by not playing him at center so he progressively comes around.

They should think out of the box and go after some Wallstreet psychologist hehe

Well, I'm a sport psychologist by profession, and I left the clinical psych graduate studies for sport psych because the clinical side was way too theoretical and by the book.

Yea that doesn't surprise me tbh, and dealing with athletes in slumps must be a lot less heavy than treating someone with really serious mental health issues.

You should send your resume to Geoff

Athletes can get pretty down on themselves. Believe me, it can appear like the end of the world for them. It's all subjective, but distress is distress, no matter what the reasons. Confidence is a tricky thing as well.

Nowadays, mental training and preparation has to be integrated in all aspects of practice and games, not just as an "aside consultation" that players with "issues" do (like Armia). The sport psychologist needs to work hand in hand with the coaching staff regularly.

The inconsistency in performance of this team has a lot to do with the mental aspect of the game.

Note: I did submit my candidacy, at the time when Marty was hired, but it gets stopped by HR if you don't have connections.

Yea that's true, if being an athlete is your life and you're going through a rough patch, I'm sure it can weigh a ton. I think that's what MSL tries to do when he says he talks a lot with the players, but a real pro that knows what buttons to push to get the most out of them would definitely be better.

That's awesome that you actually tried to get that position! Too bad it didn't go any further, you could've been our inside guy telling the players what we think about them
