Their decision to make him captain was idiotic and reeks of trying to salvage that awful contract he has where he is being paid like a #1D. He's probably not even a top pair defender at this moment, and he might not even be a great middle pair defender. Would have to check the stats.

lol, who is asking? No thanks.
I wasn’t aware that the C has to be given to the best player on the team. Certainty interesting how it’s stamkos and not kucherov on tb, towes and not Kane in Chicago, how it’s landeskog and not mackinnon in Colorado.

The captain is the guy the team responds to, and last I checked the team feeds off trouba’s energy.
He throws a big hit and the team responds.
Trouba’s mentored miller, and look at k’andre’s growth. Trouba takes shifts with Jones and Jones looks more confident with the puck.

Do I like the contract, not even slightly. But we did it before the flat cap, and it probably would’ve been even value at this point had the cap kept rising. Trouba has been almost everything we’ve asked for, and his run in the playoffs was perfect. I’ll live with bad giveaways in the regular season if teams are afraid to skate into the middle of the ice in the playoffs.

Trouba doesn't have to be the best player, not by a long shot. But it does slightly worry me that he could be a bottom pairing defenceman in a few years, if some of our young D keeps taking steps forward. That's not ideal for a captain either. #4 is is about as low as you can push it IMO.

Trouba has been basically fine so far. He was never great defensively. He's driving offense which he's elite at and he hits.

Also, it cannot be said enough that Adam Fox absolutely f***ing slaps.

I don't know why someone didn't like the crowd booing TDA but I think it might have got to him a bit. In the 3rd period when he came off the ice (I think during a powerplay) he slammed the door to the flyer bench so hard the sound reverberated through the garden. Not sure if you heard it on TV.

Not that I think it affected his play but I think he desperately wanted to shut us up.

Important to win games you get bad luck in.

Kakko was such, such a beast tonight. Laf had some swag and a few great chances too. Gauthier being a dick rounds his game out quite a bit. Igor made some huge saves when needed. Thought Lindgren was quietly very solid also
Nice. Good call. Thought he had the worst game of his career vs Islanders, but got himself righted.
He will never be fleet afoot, but his toughness and positioning is everything to him. A warrior.

Hayes also looked out of sorts. Maybe I’m projecting. But both those guys looked a bit shook.

Do you ever say anything that isn't complete hyperbole? Trouba has been bad. Its Game 11. Can we give the guy even a months worth of games before its becomes another one of your referendum's on what a poorly run organization we are? Its going to become real tired real fast if were already calling for him to be traded when we all know full well it ain't happening anytime soon.

I was almost expecting a late goal or OTG by Hayes, just to f*** with us.

Honestly, I love Hank, but if he was in net in a game like this he wouldve let up a late one and it wouldve been a 0-1 loss.

Hart was very good, but also a little lucky. 4 times he was beat and saved by the post. Laf has to bury that one. He knows it.

In other news, Schneider is looking stronger every game. Man, he competes.

Kept thinking after all the missed opportunities, and bad bounces that the Rangers were going to wind up losing that game. Big props for the team for staying composed and putting them away in OT.

Rangers dominated that game. Hart made some real nice saves. Got lucky with all the posts, what did they hit 4 of them during the game? With that said, its another 2 points and another win for the good guys!

I wonder what Sun Tzu would say about last night's game:

When presented with an opportunity to score, do not score. Make the opponent think and cause worry. Strike fear, even if there are no goal strikes. Be flexible with scoring opportunities. Not all of them will prove to be fruitful. Do not lose patience. Every non-goal is actually a goal in weakening the opponent. Wait for the final and perfect opportunity to strike. Therefore, you can direct your opponent's fate.

LMAO
Wish I had the ability to like :(

Agreed. Miller-Schneider might already be better than Miller-Trouba and Trouba is sooo bad on the power play. He just completely kills pp2 as the point man.

Can’t enter the zone or even dump it in well so that unit can rarely establish possession with him on the ice. If they ever do, whenever the puck goes to him, the play dies, as he holds the puck too long. Then he either can’t distribute it or takes a long winding, terrible shot that ends up turning the puck over with the play going the other way and he’s too slow (both skating and in his decision making) to recover. If as the captain, he needs to play on the pp, just put him on the left circle and have Jones or Miller become the point man

Agree with this post though that they should just shop him at the end of the year and get him to waive. Trading his 8m contract solves all the cap problems and can find a 3rd pairing rhd to replace him pretty easily (eg. Justin Braun)

This is a little harsh but overall not wrong. My surprise naming him captain was I thought he was the easiest high salary player we could replace within. Maybe naming him captain makes him more attractive in the trade market? I’m not sure but was confused by the selection.
