GDT: Flames vs Devils 7:00 PM EST MSGSN2

f***ing loser mentality. Go root for another team with this garbage take.

Hold up a minute.

I don’t want to miss the playoffs.

If I did I wouldn’t be so mad about this right now.

But management is highly questionable right now and I’m not sure the GM (one of the more overrated ones) is as good as we thought he was.

And with the way they keep going back to Markstrom they deserve the egg on their face for ironically letting him be the one to tank their season after giving up a first round pick for them.

My comment was merely a silver lining one. I will not root to miss the playoffs.

But speaking of loser mentality, that would be all the more reason to clean house if we do miss the playoffs. Because the current management isn’t getting it done. We should have won more games before all the injuries. We had outstanding injury luck through January. And the most significant injury we had from January was not at all missed when he was gone. Actually, him being on IR and not dressed is what’s missed right now.
Why are we at each other's throats?

Calmed down from last night after all the frustration, but yeah, inexcusable type of loss last night, especially when you need points.

Hopefully they learn from this and win Saturday.

When looking at the full picture, they’re 4-2 since the trade deadline, that’s not bad. Just need to keep pushing.

As if this dog shit ending wasn't bad enough team USA in soccer also have up a late goal last night to lose the game and be knocked out of the CONCACAF Nations League for the first time ever. I hate sports.

Markstrom had a similar issue last year where he was playing well, had a hand injury that saw him miss time, and when he came back he played terribly to finish out the year.

Just seems to be the way he's wired that he needs to be in a rhythm to be effective and that he can't really shake rust off mid-season.

Goalies lift their games with confidence and make easy saves look difficult when it goes. More likely, 35 year old Markstrom also has age after injury setback issues, a gamble Devils GM shouldn't have risked for a first-round draft pick in the 2025 draft, ironically with the Calgary Flames.

Another awful move from our talent depleting and extended contract expiry driven GM.

I’m not even quite sure what the 3rd period strategy has been over the last 2 games. Why change anything from the first 2 periods? I get that the Jackets were desperate, but they just laid down for Calgary. They were already playing a pretty risk averse game. Really dumb stuff combined with awful goalie play.

I'm sorry but blaming Keefe is beyond horse and dogshit. The last 3 goals on Markstrom could all be labeled soft, do your f***ing job in net maybe? It's the same shit that was being said around here and blaming the coach in December when they were losing games with 11-12 shots in full games. You were brought here to be a difference maker and he's been on par with Vitek Vanecek of 22-23. Burned assets for virtually nothing when the better goalie was already on the roster last year.
Bring back Vitek 🤣

Agreed. I’m not even sure it’s a Keefe thing? I don't remember them doing that to THAT extent or at all in games before the CBJ game. Just weird. Not convinced at all it’s Keefe telling them to play passive. They just play scared.

You can't play Allen every game. Markstrom has to be able to play sometimes. He was awful tonight, just couldn't hang on. The 3rd period strategy has to change.
Their roles have to switch atm, at least until this team's actually safely in the playoffs, and not just theoretically safe. Then you can start farting around trying to 'get Markstrom's game back', when his game hasn't been back with this current defensive lineup and he may still be playing his way through injury.

Keefe's presser is telling. He said he could sense a shift in their game after we went up 2-0 in the second. Thought the big goal from Cotter allowed them to reset in the 3rd and get back to where they were, but he felt they played with panic. Dillon also makes a point to say they are talking about and saying all of the right things, but that clearly they're not acting on that.

It's on the players for last night more than anything. That's why Keefe and the leadership is at a loss after this one, because they're not being instructed to do anything differently but that is how they're treating it. And that is what losing teams do.

I will say, Keefe did make mention that maybe they were gassed, so he holds some accountability there with the lineup decisions but I don't know that Cholowski provides anything more that Nemec couldn't have. And he does mention that while they didn't help Marky in the 3rd with panicky puck decisions, he has to make saves as well. Which Wolf did on the other end.

man seeing this pic makes me wish stevens got a crack once here.

He never wanted to. I remember after being assistant for a year or two, he talked about how much the travel and being away from his family wore on him. I think he came back to help the Wild as an assistant for a year and that was the last of him being a coach in the bigs.

Huberdeau called out post game that they noticed our defensemen were tired. This is a team that was at the end of a 3 in 4 saying we were tired after 2 days rest.

If you only play Nemec 9 minutes a game this is what happens.

Yea none of this is even spoken about it if Markstrom doesn't suck, but still.
Well if it's not Nemec it'll be the other stiff nobody likes getting the same minutes, or Casey getting even fewer. This isn't going to change unfortunately, they lost Hamilton and Siegs and only replaced them with Dumolin. At least not until - and I'll say this again - they're actually safely in the playoffs once and for all. Then maybe you'll start getting Nemec closer to the 14 minute range.
